I'm going to pass this article along from today's local paper. I won't comment on the story other than to say that reality is surely more bizarre than fiction. To give you a bit of political perspective, The attorney involved in this case, John Inglisino, is a close friend and political adviser to Governor Christie. The judge is a close friend and political adviser to Governor Christie. The judge's wife is a former classmate of Christie at Livingston High School. (Is there no end to this particular connection?) Why does it seem the fix is always in? But this isn't really about Christie, its just a strange story:
A Morris Catholic High School honor student and athlete who claims her parents threw her out of their Lincoln Park home when she turned 18 has taken the highly-unusual step of suing her parents for immediate financial support and to force them to pay for her college education.
from the parents:
Were heartbroken but what do you do when a child says I dont want your rules but I want everything under the sun and you to pay for it? Canning said, adding that his daughters college fund is available to her and not withdrawn or re-allocated as she has alleged.

(3,724 posts)She's a spoiled brat with parents who are hypercritical and overly controlling. They had every right to insist that she live by their rules, and she had every right to leave when she turned 18. So far so good. But, they should not have withdrawn tuition to her private catholic high school so late in her senior year - they should have ponied up the fees for the rest of the year. Having said that, they have exactly zero legal obligation to fund her college education, no parent is legally obligated to do that. It might just be tough cookies for her - go to a state-funded school, get scholarships and work study, and get your education on your own.
I think her folks are probably pretty unpleasant people, and so is she.

(36,286 posts)who should have no problems academically provided she doesn't get into the party scene. Again, if understand her situation, I think as an "impoverished" emancipated adult, she is eligible for a lot of grants to pay for college. As her parents' daughter, she is eligible for loans.
By throwing her out, her parents may have given her a leg up financially!

(273 posts)Brought by a Christie cronie, to be decided by another Christie cronie. If living expenses and legal fees are ordered, won't a portion get paid to Inglisino? And what's the matter, the local public high school isn't good enough?
