(53,031 posts)not international. After the collapse of the Soviet Union there was actually nostalgia for Stalin. Russians wanted a strong leader who would make them feel important again. Putin would seem to fill that role.

(26,117 posts)I don't know his kooky one has to be to get one world leader to call another world leader to discuss one's kookiness.

(34,589 posts)Unlike Dim Son, Putin wasn't born two steps away from home plate. He's made his own way, such as it is. Now he's hit a wall.

(15,882 posts)His interview...
"...He went on to recount one grisly story on the mob violence that in his view has dragged Ukraine into nightmarish chaos: the humiliation of the recently appointed governor of the western region of the Volyn region, Oleksandr Bashkalenko. On the night of Feb. 20, he was handcuffed by protesters, doused with water, locked up in a cellar and tortured.
He was actually only recently appointed to this position, in December, I believe, Mr. Putin explained. Even if we accept that they are all corrupt there, he barely had time to steal anything.

(10,597 posts)While surfing, and in passing thru CNN, I noticed he was having a high-ceiling empty-room press chat. But since CNN couldn't allow the public to actually listen and make of it what they would, I turned over to RT and listened in. I agree with Angela Merkel. The man is out of his blooming mind. I doubt he can read and write. Seriously. The translator even seemed to have trouble translating the gibberish. Run on sentences of total nonsense. That may work in Russia, but it don't fly anywhere else in the industrialized world. I kept thinking "Get to the point. Get to the point." And many times there never was one. I swear, he talked and talked and I don't think he answered one question!
