Religion-Love thy brother?

The hell with that second commandment. You can take the bigot to church, but you can't take the bigotry out of them

"Religion I found to be without any tendency to inspire, promote, or confirm morality, serves principally to divide us and make us unfriendly to one another." — Benjamin Franklin

Is that church a bigots' social club or a place to learn about Jesus?

Like Guns, religious posts create a lot of problems.

Then, again, maybe it's best we don't talk about religion and guns- because, you know, they create a lot of problems

If you started with the story you linked to than I wouldn't have said anything. Instead you imply that all religions are hypocrites and pull out a line by Ben Franklin to back it up.

with each Protestant sect looking down on each other and massive friction with the "papists."

The founders well knew what a minefield a state religion would be and forbid it. Religious freedom was always meant to apply to individuals, not to businesses and certainly not to corporations, and certainly not to the state.

Anybody who grew up before the 60s can remember the magazine hysteria over "mixed marriages," people of one sect marrying people of another sect. Horrors!

The truce started by Reagan that has united the worst religious people under the umbrella of "conservative Christian" is showing a few cracks. May they turn into chasms soon.
