DRUMMOND, Wis.Paul Pehler pawed the ground with his foot, grinding his ice cleats into the snow like a racehorse at the gate. When the starting light flashed green, he burst forward, pushing his brother Jared over a hill
Jared's sled wobbled as he hurtled down the icy racetrack. It was, after all, just a bar stool on skis.
"Come on, come on," muttered Paul, a 30-year-old advertising manager who lives in La Crosse, Wis. Jared is 32.
When the Pehler brothers learned a few years ago that there was glory to be had from the perch of a bar stool, they sprang into actionfashioning a sled from the frame of an old recliner, a bar stool, and a pair of skis fished from their great uncle's garage. They bombed in their first go at Sno-Jack's Bar Stool Race and Chili Feed, this town's quirky wintertime fest and major claim to fame.

(735 posts)I have come to realize that it does strange things to your mind! And coming up with wacky things to do that will get you out of the house doesn't surprise me in the least.
I knew I needed to get out when I realized that I was holding a conversation with myself because the cat was asleep!

(5,417 posts)Its a timed event. The one rule is you have to have a beer in your hand when doing it. If you don't have a beer, the stop watch may malfunction, or they will forget to hit 'start'.
I recommend plastic beer bottles.
