Gotta Stand with President Obama on this one:

President Obama's statement on the failure of the Senate to confirm Debo Abegbile:
[font size=3]

(This is)... "a travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks on a good and qualified public servant. Adegbile's qualifications are impeccable.

The fact that his nomination was defeated solely based on his representation of a defendant runs contrary to our fundamental principle of our Justice System...."

Good Job, Mr. President

[div class = "excerpt"]
6th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States
In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

In his show tonight on MSNBC,
Chris Hayes pointed out that (soon to be President) John Adams defend the British Soldiers
who fired on unarmed colonists at the Boston Massacre,
because EVERYONE is guaranteed to a "speedy and public trial",
and to have "the Assistance of Counsel for his defense."

Once More,
Kudos to The President!

Statement from the President on the Senate’s Failure to Confirm Debo Adegbile

The Senate’s failure to confirm Debo Adegbile to lead the Civil Rights Division at the Department of Justice is a travesty based on wildly unfair character attacks against a good and qualified public servant. Mr. Adegbile’s qualifications are impeccable. He represents the best of the legal profession, with wide-ranging experience, and the deep respect of those with whom he has worked. His unwavering dedication to protecting every American’s civil and Constitutional rights under the law – including voting rights – could not be more important right now. And Mr. Adegbile’s personal story – rising from adversity to become someone who President Bush’s Solicitor General referred to as one of the nation’s most capable litigators – is a story that proves what America has been and can be for people who work hard and play by the rules. As a lawyer, Mr. Adegbile has played by the rules. And now, Washington politics have used the rules against him. The fact that his nomination was defeated solely based on his legal representation of a defendant runs contrary to a fundamental principle of our system of justice – and those who voted against his nomination denied the American people an outstanding public servant.

6. The President is correct. Right to counsel is in our Constitution, for good reason.

Smearing lawyers' reputations and and punishing them for representing this accused or that one is a "good" way of long term undermining that provision of our Constitution, even though you took an oath to support it.

Most Senators are lawyers and therefore understand fully and very well the concepts of the prior two sentences.

Somebody better tell Atty Gen. Eric "Sleepy" Holder about this before the next Terror Tuesday kill list is made; it might include US citizens!

Attorney General Eric Holder Speaks at Northwestern University School of Law

Some have argued that the President is required to get permission from a federal court before taking action against a United States citizen who is a senior operational leader of al Qaeda or associated forces. This is simply not accurate. “Due process” and “judicial process” are not one and the same, particularly when it comes to national security. The Constitution guarantees due process, not judicial process.
