Tourists ticketed for getting too close to the [Niagara] falls

NIAGARA FALLS – Two tourists from Pennsylvania put themselves in peril Wednesday afternoon when they went out on a closed off, ice-covered section of Terrapin Point at Niagara Falls State Park, park police said.

Walter Gladkowski, 48, of Export, Pa. and Gregory Payne, 46, of Lancaster Pa. were spotted at about 3 p.m. by a park employee who snapped their photo on his cell phone and called the police, officials said. The men, who apparently didn’t know each other, were given tickets for being on property closed to the public.

Park police cautioned people interested in seeing the partially frozen falls to stay away from areas that have been closed off. “It’s solid snow and ice. You could slip and go right off,” said Park Police Dispatcher Crisanne Conley.

Looking at the photo I would have to agree it was unbelievably stupid to go into that area. Nika Mar 2014 #1

They are eliminating any chance for the family to sue the State Parks after their loved one slips and falls to his death, when his only mistake was going somewhere that was declared "off limits" by the State Parks gestapo.

It is just not right to mess with Darwin, let him work his magic on people like this.

There are signs all over the place warning people not to go beyond the fences. The signs show a dude falling. When I was there a few years ago there was some guy who casually went over the fence to get some pictures. I could not believe his family stood still and silent on the safe side of the fence. Luckily he did not slip off the sloping outcrop he was standing on and got back safely.

Regardless, about 12 people fall into the canyon per year. (According to answers.wiki)
