We have a problem that many, especially the upper echelon of our society, do not want to address. It is the welfare of the citizens of our country, the ever growing size of our population, and the change in our way of life with the ever changing technology.
We have made much advancement in technology. A company can acquire a computer that will do the work of several people at half the expenditure of hiring those people. It is not just computers, but robots as well. We now have (still needs to be perfected, but here all the same) a robot to do operations on people at one place and the Doctor someplace else. Next step will be a robot that does not need the Doctor.
These are great things for us today, yet it has brought a big dilemma. One we help to make by not taking into account the size of the population. That dilemma is jobs. We are starting to see the top of this iceberg right now. We must retrain so many for the new jobs that the technology is creating. We also must find what can be done to the shrinking job pool due to the predicament of a large population and the less need for humans in the work force.
We are not near the crises that countries like China are battling as of yet. However, we are going to find trouble in the near future if we dont start to think about it now. This problem is easily handled with easy access to birth control and, for some cases, access to abortions. We also add real sex education for our children. This is no big deal to handle; at less one would think that. However due to a group of small minded people, this is harder to do than say.
This group cannot see the bigger picture. The truth stares these people in the face time and time again, yet they refuse it. These are, of course, the same people that try and tell us that women cant get pregnant from rape. They also preach that abortion is an abomination, yet screams to the rafters about people that have too many children when they are poor. Many, due to a horrid lack of understanding, tell people that birth control is abortion.
These people use religion as the base for this absurd thinking. They also use pseudoscience to try and convince people they are right. They seem to either not see what is or refuse to believe it is coming.
All this denial of the changes that need to be done strikes at the need to insure the welfare of the citizens. With the changing job outlooks that we are facing we need to stop cutting programs to help the people. We also need to make the Government programs out there more visible so it is easier for the public to find what they need.
However, once again, that same group of small minded people is screaming about that. They are so bent on making Government smaller that they are hurting key programs that will be in dire need in the near future.
It is up to us that see the havoc that these people and their philosophy is and will cause to speak up and make sure the truth is heard. It is up to us to make sure that what is and will be needed gets done. The question I ask is how to proceed?

(14,120 posts)And the companies will STILL be after the technology to not have so many workers. And that leads us right back to the reason we need programs out there to help people survive.
It is a wicked web we have weaved for ourselves.
