Congress on track to approve Trans-Pacific Partnership: ambassador

the U.S. Media virtually doesn't report on the TPP. And you gotta love the arrogance of this piece of shit ambassador (though all he's doing is the bidding of the administration and the President who has made this such a high priority). Love how he tells Australians that there concerns will be addressed AFTER a final deal has been concluded. How the fuck does that work?

THE US government's most senior official in Australia says Australian concerns about a new super regional trade agreement, the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership, will be addressed when a final deal is concluded.

In an interview at the annual Australian-American Leadership Dialogue in Miami, US Ambassador to Australia John Berry said he was confident the final deal would win the support of the US congress.

Twelve countries are negotiating the TPP to bring down barriers to trade and investment and to open markets. At the same time, Australia is trying to pursue bilateral agreements with China and Japan.

While both major parties in Australia have been strong supporters of the TPP and the Coalition government has been engaged in the process since taking office last year, there have been concerns about how the plan will affect key Australian industries.

Consumer groups have warned that Australians could pay more for medicines because of effects on the Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme. They fear a requirement that patents be available for new uses of existing drugs and measures allowing big drug companies to prevent manufacturers of generic medicines from using past clinical safety and efficacy data to support the approval of new products.

While Mr Berry declined to comment on specific proposals under discussion, he said: "When those things come out there will be progress addressing Australia's key concerns."

Now doesn't that just sound too familiar? Pass it and fix it later.

Mexico, Chile and Peru are all negotiating partners in the Trans Pacific Partnership and will be key players at the G20 meeting in Australia later this year.

“By participating (in the TPP) these key Latin American partners are linking their own dynamic economies to the fastest-growing economies in Asia. They are also helping to ensure that we raise standards on trade throughout the Pacific,” US ambassador to Australia John Berry told the AALD forum.

He says that “Brazil, Mexico and Argentina are vocal proponents of the pro-growth agenda that the G20 is seeking to advance”.

line for pushing free trade amounts to "Shut the fuck up and do as you're told, peasants!"

No need to worry about compromising on THIS issue, it seems.
