I had to check when I found this headline. Certainly, Oxford standards are way down if they consider Michele Bachman worthy of speaking for their debating society (or do they accept everybody???)

Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minn.) is headed to the United Kingdom to speak at the Oxford Union, one of the world’s oldest debating societies.

The outgoing congresswoman’s speech, to be given on Friday morning, is entitled “Seeds of Progress: The struggle between innovation and bureaucracy.” According to her office, she will focus on how governments can check bureaucratic impulses that limit innovation and instead create a climate that promotes growth.

Founded in 1823, Oxford Union is the debate society of Oxford, England and primarily consists of students at Oxford University. The Union is one of the world’s most famous debating societies and has produced many of the United Kingdom’s leading politicians, including current mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

think it's just a ruse of the right. Look at who has spoken before. With the exception of Jimmy Carter they're all right wingers. I think someone intelligent will write a great speech and she'll just read it.

Democratic fundraiser by selling it on pay-per-view. But alas, the Republican party wouldn't allow someone like her to cause an international incident. That is why I looked closely to see if they had some lightweight debating just to make her look good. That's when I realized, it's not a debate, it's a bought and paid for circus side show.

They will book celebrities who may not speak well, but it's surprising to see them book a political has-been who is also an idiot. Looking at their calendar this week, I see she's talking at 4pm on Friday - which I think would not be a popular time. More popular would be evening slots, such as given to:
