Thank President Obama for protecting Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands!

Thank President Obama for protecting Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands!

President Obama signed a proclamation expanding the California Coastal National Monument to include over 1,665 acres of the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands -- extending the monument to the mainland for the first time.

The monument addition will permanently protect an important part of Northern California's unique coastal heritage while serving as a tourist draw that will boost the local economy. Travel and tourism currently support 5,000 jobs and more than $20 million in state and local taxes in Mendocino County. The monument designation is expected to increase recognition of the area among visitors and locals.

This designation forever protects this scenic area along the Medocino coastline in Northern California, an area that provides great opportunities for tourism, outdoor recreation and important habitat for seals, otters, pelicans and a host of other wildlife. We look forward to seeing communities benefit as this and other special places are protected.

Thank President Obama and his Administration for safeguarding some of our most special places!
