Democrats---dismount your donkey!

No, I'm not suggesting that you abandon the Democratic Party. Another way of saying "dismount you donkey" is "GET OFF YOUR ASS!"

At stake in these midterm elections is virtually everything that we have accomplished and dreamed of accomplishing since W and Darth slunk away into the darkness. NOTHING good will be accomplished for the rest of Barack Obama's term if Republicans hold the House and take over the Senate. In addition, I fully expect that a GOP-controlled Congress would make the impeachment of this president its first order of business.

It is very possible, if not likely that there will be another SCOTUS vacancy before 2016. Would we like another Alito? How about another Scalia?

Is our party perfect? Hell, no!

Are all of our fellow democrats honest, intelligent and caring? Absolutely not!

But, pull back to the view from 20,000 feet and our party makes the opposition look like moral and intellectual pygmies.

Posting on DU is great, but some of the passion displayed here would be better used if directed to our friends and neighbors face to face or on the phone. We need to register the uninvolved and educate those who actually don't understand what is in their interest. And, we need to get them to the polls, in our own vehicles, if necessary.

We can't expect average voters to have either our enthusiasm or our insight. But, some of them will listen to us and some of them already like and respect us as individuals. A lot of them, believe it or not, don't frequent internet discussion boards and some of them don't even own a computer. But, guess what?

Each one of their votes, if cast, counts as much as David Koch's.

Democracy---what a concept!

groups have seen positive action since 2008. The economy is doing well compared to where it could have been. A major depression was staved off. Unemployment is steadily going down, even if it could move faster. The federal deficit is down. People have health care for the first time. No one will be turned away for pre-existing conditions. Veterans have more and better benefits. The DREAM act has helped over a million immigrants. If immigration reform is passed, all the better. Record amounts of fines have been paid for offshore banking, and subsequent tax evasion. Both banks and big pharma have paid record fines. Bankers have gone to jail. Financial reform has happened through Dodd-Frank. We have a Consumer Protection Bureau. We are working on increasing the minimum wage. Unemployment benefits were extended multiple times. Military spending is decreasing. Detroit auto manufacturers were saved and are now hiring and moving jobs back to the US. We've earned our money back from Obama's stimulus plans.

The wealthy are paying more taxes. There is a Medicare (ACA) tax on capital gains and the capital gains tax rate has gone back up.

If the brand is tarnished it's only because we're not doing a good enough job of promoting the success. We may not have the billions to spend on advertising that some of the corps and corp backed groups, but we have Democratic party supporters. We need to do our job
