Huckabee: Abortion Like Killing The Elderly

CATHERINE THOMPSON – MARCH 13, 2014, 6:56 AM EDT

The same logic that leads women to get an abortion could justify ending the life of an elderly person who has become an inconvenience, according to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R).

The former presidential candidate made the comment Wednesday night at a gala sponsored by the Susan B. Anthony List, an anti-abortion group. He argued that women cite hardship or inconvenience when getting an abortion and said that same logic could justify ending the life of an elderly person, according to Politico.

“If we teach the generation coming after us that it’s okay to terminate a human life because it represents a financial hardship or social disruption, what are we telling them?” Huckabee said, as quoted by Politico.

He also chastised Republicans who want the party to steer clear of social issues like abortion, according to The Hill, and said opposing abortions is key to the GOP sweeping elections.

Of course, I'm also totally fine with abortion, euthanasia and assisted suicide, so I have no problem with his logic. In fact, I plan on doing myself in shortly after my 88th birthday. Or sooner, if I get really sick. But yes, it could become a problem where old people who are still conscious are euthanized against their will by children who just want their money or who get tired of visiting them in the nursing home. That's why we need regulation.

Of course, his logic then falters in the next sentence... when he said that "opposing abortions is key to the GOP sweeping elections." Wrong, as usual, Huck.
