So it turns out the Better Business Bureau works pretty well against Blue Cross/Blue Shield...

For 17 days Blue Cross/Blue Shield had my prior authorization forms and did nothing. I could not get through to any employee with any authority to complain. I placed at least 10 phone calls to the pharmacy benefits department and every time they gave me some other bullshit excuse for doing nothing.

Yesterday, I reported them to the Better Business Bureau around 5:30 PM and received notice from BBB early this morning that the complaint had been sent. From the time that BC/BS received the official complaint from BBB, they processed the entire claim in less than 3 hours, called my pharmacy to have them fully refund all of the medication I had to pay for with cash, called to issue me a formal apology and agreed to my own special condition that I receive a written explanation and apology from the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations.

This is a company who only gives a shit about you when you tarnish their "squeaky clean" image. But it feels good having them grovel at my feet for once.

The tables have turned motherfuckers.

so I could sign up for ACA. You could only do it by phone. I called 4 times and waited on hold for about an hour and a half total. 2 of the 4 times I was hung up on after hearing a recording that said wait time would be an hour or more. When I finally got it done, they kept sending me bills. This is the same company that tried to get me to sign up for a 'replacement' policy sight-unseen at the end of last year (at twice the price). I now have coverage through McLaren, with the subsidy, and it's $5 more per month but the coverage ROCKS. Lower deductible, no caps, free doctor visit once a year.

Somehow I've always thought of the BBB as not having any real teeth. Good to know I was wrong.

Complaining to the State agencies that govern insurance companies is usually much more effective.
