(9,457 posts)immigration and civil rights don't have anything to do with Christianity or the Catholic Church. Oh, and read the parts of the Bible that talk about helping others, you know, the parts most Repubs skipped over. One more thing, if you get into a speech about what is natural to mankind and God, throw something in about the orangeness of Boehner's skin. Thank you in advance, signed okaawhatever

Civic leaders in Philadelphia would like that to happen, while mindful of the many logistical problems involved.
If the Pope comes to the US in Sept 2015, could he also speak to the United Nations in New York City?
I believe John Paul II spoke before the General Assembly of the UN during a visit to the US.

(29,414 posts)WASHINGTON House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, extended a formal and open invitation Thursday to Pope Francis to address a joint meeting of Congress.
If the pontiff accepts, it would be unprecedented. No pope or religious leader that serves as a head of state has ever addressed Congress, according to the U.S. House Historian's office.
"His address as a visiting head of state before a joint meeting of the House and Senate would honor our nation in keeping with the best traditions of our democratic institutions," Boehner said in a statement. " It would also offer an excellent opportunity for the American people as well as the nations of the world to hear his message in full."
Boehner, who is Catholic, said Pope Francis has inspired millions of Americans with his "pastoral manner and servant leadership" to reflect on matters of human dignity, freedom and social justice.
It would certainly be fun watching them squirm, not to mention if Fox would even report on it. Doesn't matter, really, as The Daily Show would

They're masters at twisting and turning all the angles around to their benefit, whenever possible.
