SAHIL KAPUR MARCH 14, 2014, 1:00 PM EDT
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) would like Nancy Pelosi to apologize for her remarks suggesting that Republicans don't care about "struggling families and really hungry children." But that's not going to happen.
Over the weekend, the Democratic House minority leader said at the California Democrats State Convention in Los Angeles that an anonymous Republican friend told her that struggling Americans "are invisible, and the Republican caucus is indifferent to them."
That was too much for Cantor, who demanded that she eat her words.
"How outrageous is that?" the No. 2 House Republican told Fox News on Thursday night. "The minority leader in the House should really, I think, apologize for that statement. That's outrageous. We all want to help inner city kids. We all want to help people. And the debate should be around what's the best way to help people."

(1,965 posts)And what I read/take from it:
"How outrageous is that?" the No. 2 House Republican told Fox News on Thursday night. "The minority leader in the House should really, I think, apologize for that statement. That's outrageous. We all want to help inner city kids go hungry, uneducated, jobless, have their votes suppressed, and no hopes for any real productive future. We all want to help people suffer great miseries. And the debate should be around what's the best way to help people pretty much eat crap and like it."
Edit: Interrupted, lost train of thought, clicked send while on the phone thinking pause.
The point I was so tediously trying to get to, is that Ms. Pelosi surely knows as well or better than anyone just how full of BS Cantor is. No apology is in order.

This is the level of discourse from the people who are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars (plus lots of perks) to make our country's laws. These are leaders of the two parties who control half of the most important branch of our government. They truly nauseate me.

(9,965 posts)is beyond me! I was his (unwilling) constituent for two horrible years and I won't apologize for a single horrible (but true) statement I ever made about him, or a single horrible thought I ever had about him! Nancy shouldn't either, and to tell you the truth, I'd think a lot less of her if she did.

(12,530 posts)And this is all being done to influence groups of people whose median income is $51K per year (and of course, much lower for struggling and hungry families). I'm under the distinct impression that neither of them actually gives a shit about this issue, but it's great bread-and-circus material. Pelosi is of course correct that the Republicans don't care, but two very wealthy people using the poor as a proxy to have their cable TV news fight isn't very helpful to anyone.

Grow up, Eric. You and your gang have said much worse about Rep. Pelosi, our President, me, my friends, and anyone else you don't agree with. I don't recall any apologies coming from the dark side.
Rep. Pelosi, I love you.

That's closer, if a little understated...

(44 posts)She should tell him to his face to kiss her A$$. The republicans know exactly what they are doing and so do the rest of us. They care not about anything other than the all mighty $. They get paid to do nothing but what they want to and that doesn't include the poor. They walk around lying with each time they open their mouths and they want an apology ? It is time to call a liar, a liar and place them on the front page so the world can see them. It is time for the journalists to stop letting them not answer questions and make them show their true colors. Republicans are so not worried about our souls for if they were they would not be lying about some of the most important things concerning the reality of every day life of every American in this country.
They act all holier than thou but we see them with the devil in the darkness making pacts and selling their souls for a piece of silver. The anti-Christ is here and he is being groomed by the republicans to take over the Earth. The false prophets are all around us but those who profess their allegiance to God are the very ones who will bring down the destruction of the human race.
Just as Jesus knew that one of his disciples would turn against him and lead his enemies to him so too do I see the ones responsible for the degradation and torture of humanity.

(1,920 posts)Pelosi never mentioned "inner city" in her remarks. There are many struggling, hungry adults and children all over the country, in cities, suburbs and in rural areas. But to Cantor, struggling and hungry means only "inner city" people. Wonder if he meant only "certain" inner city people, at that...?

(8,964 posts)"Mean" is almost too polite a term. Cantor's strategy is to sidestep his abysmal party's track record, try to sound "reasonable", and make Pelosi the issue (again). I'm sure there will be no apologies forthcoming.

(16,941 posts)Does anybody in Washington understand that poor isn't part of race? It is the result of a lack of economic opportunity. And people exactly like Eric Cantor, John Boehner, Bill Johnson, Paul Ryan, Rand Paul who are blocking economic progress, including repairing the infrastructure, expanding the Internet, supporting green energy, and raising the minimum wage, are forcing more and more Americans to live in want. Most of the churches in our community is offering a free meal every month, either a community meal at their church, or delivering it to shut ins. The local food banks are overwhelmed., JC our part of the country was featured on a special about hunger in America. We have people of all ages, sexes and races begging on the streets in all weather. Last fall, a woman approached me inside Kroger's and asked me for money. She was white and she was very old. Doesn't sound remotely close to inner-city, none of this does. Every time I see this slimey little jerk lie about his compassion, I want to puke all over him. He and all of his cronies are POS.

(5,756 posts)Perhaps Cantor should talk to Paul Ryan. Since Ryan is one who's had to backpedal calling inner-city men "lazy" just this week. That would be face of the GOP, former vice presidential candidate, Paul Ryan.
Right, the GOP really does care not.
