Speculation: The US knows where the plane is and are now setting up a raid

to rescue the hostages. They don't want to alert the bad guys, that's why there is so little information.

I pulled that one out of my butt.

6. It was hijacked and taken to Dr Evil's Moon base. Roger Moore is on his way

(I know that isn't the plot of the movie, but it's the closest thing I can find)

11. Well, follow the evidence, which is very thin.

What do we really know? Not much.

Most of the info has been disputed and is not well sourced. Don't trust anonymous single sourced info. E.G., that the plane somehow flew four hours beyond the last contact. That is almost certainly not true.

When you peel it back to what we know, we are left with a maddening few crumbs of information.

In this situation it is appropriate for one to say, "I don't know." To do otherwise is to be going beyond the data.

That's my point.

Regards.

15. Why must you control the flow of conversation?

YOU can say "I don't know" and go about your business...since this is a free country the rest of us will enjoy speculating. Thanks.

16. I would ask, what good does making stuff up do here?

Other than assuaging people's angst of not knowing by positing some speculation that will certainly not hold up when the outcome comes out.

The problem is that people get invested in their speculation and when the outcome does not match, some may tread down the conspiracy theory path. I don't think that is at all helpful or harmless. For anybody.

I just would like to put some rational thinking behind this. Not speaking beyond what the data tells us is a good idea here. Others may disagree with that, as you apparently do. I am fine with that, as long as you can admit that one who would caution restraint has the same right.

I'll ignore the "control the conversation" comment, as I am sure that's not what you meant. This, especially given the number of speculation threads about MH370.

Best regards.

18. Good? Why does the conversation have to be good? Can't it be merely entertaining

to the people having it? Why do you have to add a qualifier to people having a whimsical debate? It just seems like you are trying to control the conversation - no need to ignore what I said. I just meant it in regards to THIS thread.

Cautioning restraint over a conversation that has no merit in the real world - means you feel that what we say here has some real world impact? Now that seems strange imo.

Also, why does this have to always end up as a conspiracy...you know 'trash thread' is a great way to keep your blood pressure down.

EDIT - I mean I will agree with you that this is pointless speculation...but it is how some of us with creative minds entertain ourselves...why would you care really?

20. I think some of them are not for mere entertainment.

Now this would be obvious entertainment. (And I would be all for it.)

But, whatever floats your boat, my friend. Please do not think that I would want to spoil a little fun. I do not.

Thanks for your respectful responses.

19. I believe that the US has never not known where the plane is.

It makes sense to believe the USDoD has the entirety of E and SE Asia area under constant radar, SIGINT and satellite observation for military and security reasons related to Russia, China and N. Korea. In fact, I can pretty much tell you where the observation and listening posts would be, within 100-or-so mile radii. (Edit: What proof do I have of any of this? None. Just educated suppositions. It's rational, more than a lot of other speculations lately. It makes sense to think the US knows more than they let on...I'd wager China does as well.)

However, such disclosures would violate security protocols and reveal the capabilities of US intelligence and surveillance, to say nothing of revealing what has to be the worst-kept secret in the world...we spy on nations we do not trust, even as we affirm that we are on friendly terms. They know it, we know it and everybody knows everybody knows it. They do it too...spy on us. It's good foreign and intelligence policy.

So, when the plane shows up...the United States government will play coy. "So, that's where it disappeared to!" as if they didn't know.

I wouldn't be surprised if we were actually preparing for an assault action to recover the plane, hostages or bodies; probably not alone though but as part of a joint action based on limited disclosures.
