Pete Seeger honor: Grandson to organize weekend of events
Folk singer to be remembered at service, concert
Pete Seegers grandson is organizing a weekend of events for July in honor of the late folk singer.
Kitama Cahill-Jackson plans multiple events on the weekend of July 19. Seeger, a Grammy-winning member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who lived in Dutchess Junction for decades, died Jan. 27. A memorial service and concert are among the events planned. Cahill-Jackson is hoping to raise $100,000 to stage the events and is asking supporters to visit www.hudsonriver.org/seegerfund/ and make a donation.

Seeger, who founded the Beacon-based Clearwater environmental organization, performed with Bruce Springsteen and was a protege of Woody Guthrie. He was also called before the House Un-American Activities Committee during the 1950s and interrogated about his communist activism.
In 2009, Seeger was honored at a concert at Madison Square Garden that featured Springsteen, Dave Matthews and countless other musicians. But Seeger was as comfortable performing at community events throughout the Hudson Valley, including the Strawberry Festival in Beacon.
