"Rabbi hurt in Kiev attack wife calls anti-Semitic"
Racheli Cohen, wife of rabbi Hillel Cohen, said Thursday's attack by two men on her husband was clearly an anti-Semitic act. "They struck him in the leg, shouting anti-Semitic slurs," she told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA).
Kiev police, quoted by Interfax-Ukraine news agency, said they were looking for two men who shouted anti-Jewish insults at the rabbi and struck him with sticks before making off in a car.
Jewish leaders have warned of a risk of anti-Semitic violence due to general instability in the country.
But many play down the importance of far-right groups that had a role in the uprising, some of which admire nationalists who at times during World War Two joined forces with invading Nazi troops.
Last month, a provincial synagogue was firebombed and there were some assaults on Jews in the streets in previous months."

Ukrainian Rabbi Moshe Reuven Azman, called on Kiev's Jews to leave the city and even the country if possible, fearing that the city's Jews will be victimized in the chaos, Israeli daily Maariv reported Friday.
"I told my congregation to leave the city center or the city all together and if possible the country too," Rabbi Azman told Maariv. "I don't want to tempt fate," he added, "but there are constant warnings concerning intentions to attack Jewish institutions."

he is part of the emergency defense group in Kiev, or at least that is what I gathered.
"The chairman of Hatzalah-Kiev, Rabbi Hillel Cohen, was attacked last night by anonymous assailants that stabbed him in the leg and fled the scene of the crime."

(25,532 posts)since Israel accepts all Jews of any country without quota. Of course, only if that's OK with some of the people around here. I don't expect to hear too much from some of our fellow posters who are quick draw/hair trigger when it comes to certain Mideast issues. I await the outpouring of sympathy for this rabbi from them. And will continue to await it.
Furthermore, I didn't see like 200 posts supporting the Israeli hospitals which are taking care of the wounded Syrian children. Very quiet........................

(53,951 posts)There are also neo-Nazis in Russia. I saw this story and this may be part of the on-going situation or just a continuation of the historic anti-Semitism in Ukraine. Did people really think anti-Semitism would suddenly dry up? I find all the faux concern stomach churning.

(32,886 posts)This has been a massive problem in Eastern Europe for a long time. There is a reason tons of Eastern European Jews have migrated to the US and Israel.
This needs to be addressed, but it is not an excuse for Russian invasions. Russia has a HUGE job to do to clean up virulent anti-semitism in their own country first.

(10,745 posts)BTW, there are also a fair number of neo-Nazis in Russia and most of them seem to be pretty friendly with Vlad and his United Russia party.....or at least, they don't have an issue with him.
