DU has almost 213,000 users now. The size of a smallish city.

So, when folks post their vanity "I am outta here!" threads- that's probably 212,500 people or so that just really....

don't care. At all.

I do like to see our "obituaries," particularly if they were longtime members.

But, the people leaving these days? Never even heard of them- It's like saying, "hey! Do you know Steven Jones? He lives in Baltimore too!"

you have been here long enough to know the "old time" DUers get mad every now and then and "leave." I am not breaking the rules here by naming anyone, but the most melodramatic "I am leaving FOREVER!" poster (who "left" a few times) is one of the most recognized names here.

look, if people chose to say goodbye it is their business.

Reason umpty squat these days to question motives.

By the way, if you are going to go there, I am going to go there too. This OP of yours is just as look at me, as anything else.

Thread trashed.

We haven't checked the numbers in a while, but I think in any given week we have a few thousand unique accounts posting messages. Of those, the vast majority are only posting a couple times in a given week, while a small number of people are posting multiple times a day. And we have many very active lurkers who come here every day but never post.

I mean, couldn't that number include all of the people who ever registered even if they haven't been here for years?

on edit Don't walk away before hitting post or your question may already be answered before u ask it. lol

The number includes the hundreds of tombstoned members, like you said registered & not posting (maybe never posted), etc. etc.
I'd agree with the previously mentioned 1 to 2K active users.

of whom I would guess that a significant number have been banned, and a significant further number haven't visited the site in years. If I had to guess the number of actual, active users, I'd say it was likely to be anything between ten and twenty-five percent of those ever registered (and possibly less).
