Being Self-Employed Means Never Knowing When

it's a weekend day. I have just finished up work on a contract that had a deadline of this past Friday. My eyes are blurry, my fingers are tired, and I'm going to have a gin and tonic this very minute.

"Mothers, don't let your babies grow up to be writers! Let them be bankers, politicians and such."

There's also the problem of the workday never really starting on some days and never really stopping on others.

here I am, reading and posting on DU, lol.

I'd add some Vodka to this glass of OJ but then I'd be asleep instead of getting this assignment done.

All you do is roll a piece of paper into the typewriter and stare at it until drops of blood form on your forehead.

But, try writing ten pages about ten different commercial HVAC systems that are all virtually identical, without any duplicated phrases. Welcome to my world. Next, I get to write twenty pages about the scrap metal business, followed by 25 pages for a clinical psychologist' s website. Always an interesting challenge.

I am doing tax work...lots of long hours and no weekends until April 15. However, I do get to play the rest of the year. I feel for you doing that routine off and on all year.

Hang tough, MineralMan, and enjoy your gin and tonic whenever you can.

I've put up with enough office bullshit to last a lifetime. Working on weekends is a small price to pay for freedom.

interestingly my favorite time at the beach is fall/winter even though business is slow because it's not so crowded. so i actually don't mind working while everyone else is going down to have fun.
