Did the South win the war?

Not the Civil War.
We know the North won.

I mean the propaganda war.

Many Southerners refer not to the Civil War, but the "War Of Northern Aggression."

"Roots" and "12 Years A Slave" are more the exception than the rule.

"Duck Dynasty" stars look back fondly at the days pre-civil rights.

Texas schoolbooks are constantly being revised (or attempted to revise) to say slavery wasn't so bad.

Count me as one life-long Southerner who's hearing about this term for the first time.

And this was around 1988, so the term has been around for awhile.

Fortunately, I seem to learn more from DUers about Southerners that I haven't had the misfortune to experience as a Southerner myself.

Similar to a book report from someone who read the jacket cover or a movie review from someone who watched the trailers.

The money being spent by the Koch brothers and their John Birch Society and other propaganda organs like the State Policy Network is an all out attempt to keep us off balance. We have really got to get smarter at getting our message out. We need to get progressives to run for school boards and township trustees again. That is where we are getting beaten.

Very thought provoking post. Thanks!

she said she didn't even know the South lost until they transferred her out here. She called it The War of Northern Aggression.

But they sure as hell tried to marginalize the slavery aspect and play up the part about states rights, exploitation of the south, and tariffs.

way in RL.

However, I have heard lots of people downplay the evils of slavery, and some people even
believe that the slavetraders and slaveowners did the slaves a favor by bringing them to
the US and enslaving them. I can't see how anybody can believe something so fucking
stupid.
