(116,464 posts)No American is forced to listen to Fox.
A station serving the same purpose as Fox could never exist in Russia because Putin would shut it down.
This is an apples and oranges comparison.

(220 posts)They're not beholden to corporate advertisers, which means they can accurately report on corporate malfeasance unlike the US media.

Al Jazeera is owned by Qatar.
BBC funded by the UK Government.
There is no doubt that Fox is a propaganda arm of the MIC.
Cheney's favorite station.
It's beyond believe that we now have people cheering for Fox.
RT as Hillary said, is a good news source.
Fox is a criminal organization.

(62,325 posts)RT= Left leaning, anti-War, Liberal Voices actually allowed on the air, award winning in its first year, news org. Opinion talk shows include all sides of the political spectrum. Funded by Russian Govt, did cover anti-Putin demonstrations which were quite big. Russian news slanted, as expected towards Russia. MSM news as expected slanted towards the US.
Right or Left, I'll take Left every time. We are more than capable of sorting out bias from fact. But if I can see Amy Goodman, Chris Hedges, Thom Hartmann, on the air, none of whom are allowed on the MSM, I'll definitely be watching.
No one is 'cheering for Putin' either, but that is the black and white position DU is now taking, so I'm following along. And yes by the new standards on DU, people ARE 'cheering for Fox'.

(8,646 posts)CBC here in Canada is essentially a crown corporation but it's not a bad news source...in fact it's more reliable than a lot of private stuff here in Canada. That said, I think both Fox and RT are basically really horrible propaganda channels.

(18,184 posts)but Fox News is worse because they lie more and misrepresent their agenda.
RT is slanted, but at least it's clear what their agenda is, and you can take that into account.
FWIW I generally avoid both of them but I have more of a dislike for Fox News and all Murdoch propaganda because of their impact in the English speaking world.

(4,452 posts)I have to stream RT on the computer. RT at least covers some international news. They have good documentaries that provide a look at the world that I can't afford to visit.
Then there are Keiser and Martin that challenge the financial and political elite who've been bending us over for decades.
So where is the comparison?

Fozzledick
(3,860 posts)With regard to their US coverage, they seem to understand that the most effective propaganda is that which is actually true, and rather than distort the facts they just cherry-pick stories that fit their agenda.
On the other hand, their reporting on Russia, eastern Europe and the Middle East goes all out with shameless Fox style making-shit-up.
I'm inclined to think worse of Fox because they've been so much more harmful to the US, but RT is endeavoring to do the same to Russia.

(1,832 posts)Fox is full of garbage and misinformation, but I can't label them worse than the mouthpiece of a totalitarian piece of shit like Putin. People who listen to and believe Fox Noise are misinformed, gullible and simple. People who believe RT are fucking evil.

(13,616 posts)But only in the sense that getting kicked in the head (RT) is better than having a chainsaw applied to the head (Fox), one is clearly less fatal than the other, but both are tools of violence meant to enable creeps to kill.

(21,786 posts)no-one outside the US pays the least bit of attention to Fox News. It is a national news network with a narrow and parochial US-based focus. It does not engage in anything that pretends to be serious analysis of international issues. It reaches a negligible international audience.

(20,226 posts)value - Just as ABC/NBC/CBS and CNN represent the conventional American point of view. They also have value if you keep that in mind. Fox News is nothing but idiotic burping, farting, grunting and calling people names with a central theme of "I'M a dumb ass and proud of it!" It has no value no matter what you keep in mind.

(45,319 posts)of their anti gay attitude and racism to know they are bigoted and thus not to be trusted on any issue at anytime, ever. The folks on DU who link to RT are making a strong statement about their own acceptance of bigotry. No DUers promote FoxNews. I assume that's because it is not homophobic enough for them, so they stick with RT for their commentary posing as news.
