Mom turns herself into human speed bump to save twins

A mother who was desperate to keep her car with her twins inside from rolling into oncoming traffic threw herself behind the vehicle to act as a human speed bump, ABC News is reporting.

Mindy Tran, 22, parked her car with her 2-year-old daughters inside and then went to lock the front door of her Michigan apartment. She turned around to see the car rolling down her steep driveway toward a busy intersection.

She laid behind the rolling car, slowing it down enough for a neighbor to come help.

Tran suffered a dislocated shoulder and injuries to her leg from the March 6 incident. She's currently in a wheelchair and will need several more surgeries, but she vows to walk again.

2. Not being there, I can't judge but wouldn't it have been quicker to get into the car?

I was at a neighbors house - she just got home with a broken leg and had 2 small children. While in her house, her small kids climbed in the car and turned it on and backed out of the driveway. I don't think I ever ran faster out of the house and into the street to get that car. Now it was not a busy road, but still seems faster than trying to stop the car with a body.

It's hard to imagine how this scenario played out. She said in the interview that she did it so that the neighbor could get in the car to stop it. It sounds like she frantically did what she imagined would help. I don't know if the neighbor would have been unsuccessful without her intervention...

Regardless, it's a sad, touching story. She'll live with the physical ramifications of her decision for the rest of her life. I wish her a painless and speedy recovery.

off in their mother's car near me. I can't believe I moved that fast, but jumped in the car to stop it - well 8 and 4 are bigger than toddlers. they just wanted to go for a ride without their mother. One worked the pedal and the other changed gear. By nature I move slow, but when I heard a girl scream, I jumped. I was visiting the mother who had a broken leg. But it was a quiet street, I have no idea what this mother had to contend with.

I was inside cooking. My heavily pregnant sister in law came in and said the neighbors car was going down the street with the kids in it.

I ran outside, took off my flip flops and ran after the car. Jumped in and stopped it. Drove it back. Kids were laughing!

The whole time the moms were just standing there in shock. Don't know why they didn't turn themselves into human speed bumps. LOL!

12. WOW! good for you! I had it easier, the kids did not know how to go forward, so they were backing up

and were pretty slow with the one kid on the floor. And I had walking shoes on because I was walking the dog before I stopped in.

I can't blame the mother in the case where I had to chase the car, she was misdiagnosed to having a sprained leg, but it was broken. They told her to walk on it and it was really bad, so she finally got a cast on it but walking on it had her in pain, she could not move. Her kids were just mad because she would not take them for ice cream.

... I doubt she intended to lay her body down as a makeshift speed bump. It seems more likely that she witnessed her neighbor about to jump in the car so she was hoping to help out by attempting to slow the car with her hands; ultimately losing her balance in the process.

Her young age was a likely contributor to her limited understanding of physics.

What she did was a selfless and heroic act of unconditional love for her children. I sincerely commend her and wish for her, the very best in her recovery.

With a steep incline, the car could have accelerated pretty quickly and who knows how far she had to run. She could simpy have run out of time and thrown herself behind it.

that her girls are okay, and that she is recovering. When you see footage of her garage, which is located on a hill, and a steep driveway down to what is basically a freeway, you get how she must have panicked and acted impulsively.

I hope her recovery is full and speedy.

To me, a 22 year old mother of twins left in a state where she "vows to walk again" is more spinechilling than heartwarming.

sliced his niece's throat (and stabbed her in the heart) 'to put her out of her misery' because he claimed that she 'tripped' and fell on a sharp piece of wood, injuring herself.

Stuff like that - I sometimes really just can't read the news - not strong enough. Stories like this woman's experience remind me that yes, people will try to move heaven and earth to save their families.

YMMV. Cheers.
