In the city of Fallujah, 60km west of the capital, government-led shelling and fighting between soldiers and gunmen killed 15 people and wounded 40, according to Ahmed Shami, the chief medic at the city's main hospital.
The violence erupted just after midnight on Wednesday as sporadic shelling targeted northern, eastern and southern neighbourhoods of the city.
Speaking to the AFP news agency tribal leaders in the city confirmed the doctor's account....
The violence, in which more than 2,000 people have died already this year, has been primarily driven by discontent in the minority Sunni Arab community, that alleges mistreatment at the hands of the Shia-led government and security forces, and by the civil war raging in neighbouring Syria.

(4,879 posts)We never should of gone there to begin with. The corporations that enriched themselves on "my" tax dollars should fix it.
How's that?

(4,879 posts)They can't fix anything. They can only enrich themselves. Geez, that is so fucking obvious.
The more broken things are, the richer they get.
Why aren't you whining about "my tax dollars" enriching those corporations?

(11,936 posts)I just took your initial response as suggesting that we should re-engage Iraq militarily because we didn't fix it after we broke it.

(4,879 posts)I gave that impression. I think we should mind our own business, and do some nation building right here at home. I can't think of a better use for "my tax dollars".
I do, however, think that the corporations that enriched themselves, with the invading of these countries, need to fix it.
Truth be known, they could fix it. They profit in broken systems, so it's not going to happen.

(11,936 posts)On corporations... they can't really fix it because they don't have large militaries. And even then, that's not really fixing it.
Iraq is descending into the same shit a lot of the surrounding countries have descended into... and that's basically extreme right wing theocracy. You can't fix that with money, I don't believe. And really all military intervention can do is suppress it. You can't force these foreign societies to change until they are ready. We've went through this same shit in America to a certain degree. Black folks, women, GLBT, other minorities, etc... those things mostly change for the better when the society itself changes. You can buy that into being or shoot that into being, I don't believe.

(4,879 posts)corporations could fix it by simply not profiting off the blood of others.
I'll agree on the theocracy thing (all theocracy is right wing).
I don't believe in military intervention to change foreign societies. I do believe in change by example. The US of A just doesn't set a good example anymore. We have truly lost our way.
Peace.

(65,616 posts)I really don't know what is worse, a secular dictator or a fundamentalist religious council in charge of a country. One dictator or 12.
WELP, at least we helped liberate them...from what I have no idea.
