Take that-BP: Marlin attacks oil pipeline, causing a 5 day shutdown & costing over $100 million

Take that, BP!
Environment by PZ Myers

It’s nature’s revenge: a marlin attacked an oil pipeline, causing a 5 day shutdown and costing BP over $100 million.

The attack moose are in training for Keystone XL. It’s not going to be pretty.

Better watch out - the obvious solution, to BP, might be to kill all the marlin. djean111 Mar 2014 #1
I am skeptical that it really cost them $100 million to fix the puncture. Incitatus Mar 2014 #2

Especially since no oil was lost. Maybe their numbers guys can justify a $100 million tax deduction for it, though.

But that simple puncture isn't inexpensive to fix. The pipeline will have no revenue during the fix, it has to be partially or fully drained, it has to be given and has to pass integrity tests after being repaired. That Marlin must have been running from some predator.
