sometimes I have my doubts about whether Earth is, though.

having expended too much evolutionary energy on growing an enormous cerebral cortex without developing controls over the limbic system (the 'lizard brain') - replete with territoriality, ritual behavior, aggression and other 'reptile' behaviors.

so we cannot survive on it. Nor any other life forms. We raised the evolutionary ante too fast with too little of the intelligence that brought us there. Now we have a unique crunch point made by our hands and driven by the absolute worst scum the human race could ever produce.

Progress by intelligence, death by morons. Homo sapiens, just an oxymoron.

Yet, intelligence or no, it would seem this development was the best hope by life on the planet to fashion protections, thriving and growth against all perils. We still could do our mere duty.

as Mr. idle put it.

So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure
How amazingly unlikely is your birth
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth
