Why are we arguing about Obamacare?
It's here, and it's probably the only thing that can't change until 2017, the one change Obama won't negotiate.
Anyone with a brain and a heart knows that Medicare for All will be far, far better. Let's work for that. And let's work to elect FDR Democrats who'll work with us.

1. It's done. It's the law. He is not supposed to be able to negotiate it.

3. What's to negotiate. Congress needs to get off of its collective tush
and address gaps in the law. That won't happen before the election, unless you want to count the gazillionth votes that the Rs in the House will take to repeal it. What needs to happen is voters need to get to the polls and elect representatives that will work together and with the President to improve the law.

8. Social Security is a law, too.
And that one's highly negotiable, unfortunately.

2. Well,
"Why are we arguing about Obamacare?"
...get used to it. The anecdotes are going to go on from now until at least November. There is a vested interest to turn people against the law. "It's here, and it's probably the only thing that can't change until 2017, the one change Obama won't negotiate. " Nearly 20 million Americans will get Medicaid, and the law puts the country on the path to single payer. It's coming. But even here, remedies could evolve. States might use their state-run exchanges to funnel so many applicants to a single, low-cost insurer that the insurer becomes, in effect, a single payer. Vermont is already moving in this direction, and California may be next. In this way, the Affordable Care Act could become a back door to a single-payer system – every conservative’s worst nightmare.

4. If we can get someone to run on this.
There is no guarantee that even HRC would to the extent that it would be an attainable goal and actually be "Universal Healthcare" in the way we here believe Medicare could be expanded to become.

5. Funny story, we are NOT - this is a clash between some old timers.
Hopefully they are getting it out of their system.

9. A blow over.
Seriously Russia is saber rattling, more important things going on objectively. Maybe they feel better after some ranting. At least some socks got put away. Weekend warriors lol!

7. Because we have elections this year
and the repugs will do anything to win. Obamacare is an easy target because it's a significant piece of legislation and the press has done much to vilify the program along with the repugs themselves. That's why it's being discussed. I think those of us who are interested in electing dems need to learn as much as we can about it and push towards a transition to single payer. Medicare for All, Tricare for All - either of these programs could be phased in for all. The insurance companies could still exist on a smaller level to offer supplementary coverages.

10. I think it's because the Repugnicans have such a expen$$$ive anti-Obamacare propaganda machine
In addition to Republicans hating Obamacare, there are other wackos who hate Obamacare. For example, there's the conspiracy theorist (how he makes his living, coming up with conspiracy theories) Alex Jones, who has proposed that Obamacare is bad. There are also the Naderites, still reeling from their dismal failure at reaching success by selling out to the Repukes. They are still out there looking for even more ways to sell out to the Repukes and have adopted their "I-hate-obamacare" mantra, rather than help move the entire nation further left gradually. All of those and a few more have swallowed the right wing Kool-Aid BY THE GALLONFUL.
And why do Repukes have such active, vast and expensive propaganda against Obamacare? For a couple of reasons. First, because Obama looks black and is therefore considered black, and Repukes, no matter what they say, are racists. Repukes STILL can't get over that there really, really is a black guy in the Oval Office. Behind every Republican claiming that he's no racist, is a rabid sheet-wearing KKKer frothing at the mouth. I'm convinced of it because I've seen it. They drop their guard, and VOILA, there it is, the true identity of the Repuke - their ugly souls peeking out from eyeholes and trying to burn a cross in front of the Oval Office. Obama's biggest mistake in these years as president, has been in never giving up on the idea that he could bring the Repukes on board with him, to cooperate with him, to work with him. I often think Obama is much too damned optimistic and he's got to stop that already. What really pisses me off though, is the fact that the damned thing, Obamacare, hasn't even gotten under way and ALREADY SOME people are wanting it to be streamlined, perfect, ironed out, smoothed out, ideal, and the best thing since white bread. Are you frikkin' kidding me???? |
