The activist Liberal Left is the best GOTV part of the Party.
Without an active Liberal left, the party would be all republican.
So when you see someone start attacking the Liberal left on DU, you can figure they are here to cause division and to keep activists from GOTV.

You posted this exact same OP earlier in the week. I'll say the same thing I did them. The base of the party is comprised largely of women and people of color, the ones who vote Democratic every election and work to turn out the vote. The people who think the two parties are the same or vote third party are not the base at all, if that is what you happen to mean by liberal left.
Part of the problem with terms like "liberal left" is they are essentially meaningless. The left-right categorization is a leftover relic of the Cold War. Here people use the term leftist to describe themselves and right-wing to condemn everything they disagree with. Some claim defending Putin is leftist. Some think denying sexism and racism is leftist, while others like myself think marginalizing the majority of the public is the epitome of right-wing. People who contribute to Republican electoral victories by voting third party think of themselves as leftist, even though their political behavior leads to increasing Republican power.

(14,733 posts)can, inasmuch as they might still be useful descriptors, be simply tied to what Republican positions on just about anything are. Any issue in which you find yourself agreeing with Republicans, you're probably 'to the right' on. Any position in which you're about as opposed to them as possible, you're 'to the left'. Really, I have yet to hear just about anything coming out of elected Republicans that is remotely sensible as soon as they say anything that isn't an incredible generalization. They want to reduce the debt? Fine, but they can never articulate any path to doing so that doesn't simply amount to 'leave the poor to starve.'
Sexism? Racism? Don't exist or not worth worrying about to Republicans. So if you agree with that, you're 'to the right' on those positions.
I agree that 'marginalizing the majority of the public' is right wing. Which is why I'm so annoyed to see elected Dem after elected Dem ignoring polls that show what the public actually wants. They're acting 'right wing' when they do so. The people were asked what they wanted, and time and again, they told us, and time and again, Dems went out of their way to join Republicans in ignoring most of the polls. That's *not* the way to win more voters.

(34,589 posts)Pick almost every "Liberal" issue... Medicare for all, unions, raising taxes on the wealthy, whatever... two-thirds of *Americans* are *for* it.
We. Are. A. Liberal. Nation.
Any other narrative is false.

Imagine had DU been around in 2000... Gore would have won by several million votes, not just the 500,000 they could not steal.

Americans. Are. Liberal.

(14,733 posts)The people who say 'no, it's the young, the women, the whatever' are simply ignoring the fact that while many people won't claim the label of liberal, almost all of those who want to proclaim themselves the base agree with what are actually liberal positions.

(11,495 posts)Many of those who claim to be the liberal left are the same ones who don't really seem to be pushing the GOTV idea so I would like to know just who is the liberal left here?
The vast majority of GOTV threads and posts I see are from the group that supports the president and have been called "Obamabots" for doing so. I guess I am confused!

(13,685 posts)But I find it to be made up bunk.
It is quite evident that Reagan voters are not the base. Rather they are swing voters that the Liberal Left is rightly upset with. Oh, there may be some who have learned their lessons, but for the most part can't be counted on to vote the correct way all the time. They have admitted as much, so there really is no argument on that science.

(45,851 posts)Good luck with that, they'll throw your sensible moderate candidate under that good bus as soon as he/she votes for some desperately needed war or to gently trim waste and fraud from Social Security in the spirit of bipartisan comity.

Hey, it's not that bad being under the bus. There are a lot of good people here. Pretty soon we'll out number and start driving that bus.
