In terms of rate of wealth gain, most of the 1% is limping along, having to make do with merely being very rich.
The top tenth of the 1%, however, is doing quite well.
And the top 1% of the top 1% in wealth is rocketing upward.
It is cause for a revolution of some sort.
Notice the difference between the great depression and the recent small depression. During the great depression wealth inequality decreased.

Since 1978 this share has been increasing continually.
Notice also that the last three Democratic Administrations did nothing to reverse the trend.

The 0.1% have done a very good job of ensuring that nobody notices them. If for no other reason, OWS deserves our gratitude for raising awareness of the existence of the ultra-wealthy and putting the notion of "the 99%" into the national vocabulary.
