Most of the 1% aren't gaining all that much

In terms of rate of wealth gain, most of the 1% is limping along, having to make do with merely being very rich.

The top tenth of the 1%, however, is doing quite well.

And the top 1% of the top 1% in wealth is rocketing upward.

It is cause for a revolution of some sort.

Notice the difference between the great depression and the recent small depression. During the great depression wealth inequality decreased.

1. It is tough if you are a 1%er and make stuff to sell when few can buy your stuff.

If you are a 1%er who has a monopoly, involved in scams to defraud the public, hedging bets on losses; then life is a great big opportunity.

in which the wealth share of the top 0.1% was at its lowest.

Since 1978 this share has been increasing continually.

Notice also that the last three Democratic Administrations did nothing to reverse the trend.

Or a replay.

Verbal Kint, The Usual Suspects (1995)

The 0.1% have done a very good job of ensuring that nobody notices them. If for no other reason, OWS deserves our gratitude for raising awareness of the existence of the ultra-wealthy and putting the notion of "the 99%" into the national vocabulary.
