Boston Red Sox player David "Big Papi" Ortiz takes a selfie with President Barack Obama, holding a Boston Red Sox jersey presented to the president during a ceremony today where the president honored the 2013 World Series baseball champion Boston Red Sox. In the background are pitchers Junichi Tazawa, left, Koji Uehara, right.
April 01, 2014
President Barack Obama has welcomed the World Series champion Red Sox to the White House, praising their triumph on the field last fall while hailing them as a symbol of their city's determined response to the bombing at last year's Boston Marathon.
Obama said today he's grateful for the role the team played in helping heal the city after the terror attack. He said sometimes sports seems trivial, but it can bring people together like almost nothing else. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz at one point took a selfie of himself and the president as a keepsake.
Flanked by the players and team officials, Obama noted the Red Sox have the winningest championship record in baseball over the past decade. Last year's title was the team's third in a decade.

I love the pics of "Big Papi" the President and the entire team! What an honor for Boston!
Here's another honor that was paid,
The Red Sox honored ...
Red Sox bombing victims: Boston Red Sox honor marathon victims at parade
The Red Sox honored the marathon bombing victims at the end of their victory parade on Saturday, Nov. 2. The team and many involved rode duck boats through the streets of the city and made a stop toward the end of their route at the Finish Line of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street. Yahoo! posted some amazing pictures from the touching tribute that had almost everyone in tears.
The duck boats came to a halt just before the Finish Line and the World Series trophy was placed on the painted ground that was covered by tragedy just 6 months ago.

The Red Sox kept the bombing victims in their hearts throughout the whole season and many believe that this team really came together to win for a city that was devastated but never broken. A city that will always be "Boston Strong."

(83,737 posts)I googled it as you were not answering the question. I see he mispronounced Mike Napoli's last name wrong.
OMG! The President is human. Who knew!
A question for you, why the snark? Is it the President that you have an issue with or maybe the Red Sox or is it Boston? Why did you drop that here?
They won in 2013, with spirit and determination for a city that had suffered a great loss. You do remember the Boston Marathon Bombing do you not!?
The President honored their achievement as he does all the teams.
The Sox honored them! The victims!
Sadly you just can't give the bashing a rest, can you?

(49,212 posts)I didn't bother to explain because it's an ongoing joke out here in Northern California. Which isn't exactly crawling with wingnuts.

(83,737 posts)Just because North California knows the joke doesn't mean everyone does. It would have helped if you had added it to your post.
However...Thanks for the explanation.
Peace~
