Pelletier's parents take up Deshowitz offer; state reps call for investigation of DCF

Dershowitz told FoxNews.com Tuesday he is interested in working with the family's current legal team on "broader Constitutional issues" surrounding the case. The attorney said he isn't looking to "micro-manage litigation," but was moved to offer his help on a pro bono consulting basis after reading about the family's plight in newspaper accounts.

Dershowitz, who said he had great respect for both hospitals, said he found it disturbing that the state would take custody of the child as a result of a dispute between two esteemed medical institutions.

“Parents have a right to be wrong, as long as they’re acting reasonably," Dershowitz said. "And if two distinguished medical centers have different diagnoses, it should be the parents, not the state, that determines the course of treatment.”

BOSTON, April 1, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Massachusetts state representatives Jim Lyons (R-Andover) and Marc Lombardo (R-Billerica) will discuss an impending investigation into DCF spending on the Justina Pelletier case at a Wednesday morning news conference.

Representatives Lyons and Lombardo have requested that the Chairman of the House Committee on Post Audit and Oversight convene an investigation into the amount of taxpayer dollars that have been spent on the Justina Pelletier case since the state first intervened over fourteen months ago.

The news conference will be on Wednesday, April 2, at 11:00 A.M. on the sidewalk in front of the steps to the State House on Beacon Street. They will be joined by other State Representatives and a spokesperson for the Pelletier family.

Representative Marc Lombardo comments, "The administration has indicated that DCF lacks the resources necessary to carry out their duties. If this is true, why is DCF spending what appears to be endless amounts of money fighting to keep a loving family and their daughter apart? With over 130 children under DCF care currently missing, it might be time for DCF to reevaluate their priorities."
