This morning, Paul Ryan called for the complete elimination of funding for the National Endowment for the Humanities in his FY 2015 budget resolution.
This is only one way that Republicans are attacking our University system. The apparent problem is that the United States has the best University system in the world. Academics from around the world seek to obtain positions in our system. And students from around the world compete to enter into our system. The Republican response is to destroy the system. God forbid that we should still allow excellence in the United States of America!!!!

(50,557 posts)Start with the fact - the ABSOLUTE FACT - Paul Ryan's deficit elimination plan starts out with two tax cuts: reduction in the corporate tax rate and changing the individual tax system from six brackets that top out at 39.6% to two brackets that top out at 25%.
Even the smallest child knows, if you have a big bill to pay and you don't earn enough money to pay it, the last thing on earth you do is figure out a way to earn less money.
I tried reading his plan. It's just too depressing.

(4,407 posts)He one of many people who got into office, not to govern and make the country work, but to get money to his friends so they would give some back and he could get elected again. By cutting this, he can support his tax ideas without running as high of a deficit, apply tax breaks to his rich friends, get re-elected.
The fools are the ones who don't or won't realize that Ryan isn't going to help them and is, in fact, going to hurt them.

(12,864 posts)So far, what he's been doing has worked out pretty well for Paul Ryan:
He's been re-elected to Congress, he heads a powerful committee, and his party controls the House.
The real fools are citizens who aren't rich but keep voting for him and his ilk.
Another class of fools are Democrats whose initial position is already a compromise to meet the R's halfway. Ryan, on the other hand, starts out on the extreme right -- which means that any compromise the Dems make from their position steadily moves the goalposts further to the right.
This has been going on for decades. Professional politicians are smart enough to see it -- which seriously calls into question their motivations and objectives.
