Say what?!?!

http://www.truthrevolt.org/news/donna-brazile-danger-mccarthyism-over-gay-rights
On Sunday's This Week, liberal Donna Brazile said that she agrees with Andrew Sullivan, who on Friday accused the gay rights movement today of fanaticism in the shaming of those who disagree with them.

I do agree with Andrew Sullivan that we have to, you know, be very careful that we're not practicing a new McCarthyism.

Brazile's remarks come in the wake of Mozilla, the company behind the web-browser Firefox, forcing the resignation of their CEO over personal donations he made to the Proposition 8 campaign in California six years ago.

Did I wake up in some sort of Bizarro World where discrimination against a certain portion of our population is now to be defended and coddled and accepted?!?!!?

BTW...sorry for that site (judging from the comments, we're dealing with knuckle-dragging bigots who revel in their bigotry).

The thing they're both missing is that tolerance has to be on *both* sides for it to work. CJCRANE Apr 2014 #1

Tolerance = I let you go about your life without hindrance, and you let me do the same.

When one side stands in your way, then the equation breaks down.

Just replace the word "gay" with "christian" and the RW christians would soon understand how that works.

Christians shouldn't be allowed to marry. Restaurants should be allowed to refuse service to christians.

Could Christians tolerate these views?

I might tolerate (i.e., put up with) a toothache or a sh!tty boss. But what's to tolerate about our LGBT brothers and sisters? I don't find them or their quest for equal human rights to be something bad or unpleasant (and I know you don't, either).

In my opinion, "tolerance" (and other terms, like "sexual preference," which I sometimes see DUers use) is the expression of a sort of right-wing, fundamentalist xenophobia that has wormed so far into our national dialogue about human rights that it even shapes the way we progressives discuss these issues.

This isn't a slap at you at all, CJCRANE. Just sayin' there are some terms that make me cringe. Good morning!

tol-er-ate

: to allow (something that is bad, unpleasant, etc.) to exist, happen, or be done

: to experience (something harmful or unpleasant) without being harmed

: to accept the feelings, behavior, or beliefs of (someone)

It also leads to circular arguments.

The RW fundies say "if you don't tolerate our intolerance, then you're intolerant". And the argument turns into a semantic one about the meaning of tolerance.

It's probably better to say "f*** tolerance, I want everyone to have the same rights".

I wouldn't support any person or law seeking to prevent Christians from marrying, adopting kids, etc. What's to tolerate about that?

What sticks in my craw is the religious right using its bully pulpit to shape public policy in accordance with ts religious beliefs. I'll defend their human rights, but I draw the line at allowing them and their beliefs to negate everyone else's human rights.
