Christie administration faces scrutiny over Hurricane Sandy contracts
TRENTON Gov. Chris Christies administration faced more scrutiny Monday for its handling of Hurricane Sandy recovery amid revelations that the state paid $36 million to a company it let go after just seven months on the job and that some of the work is now going to a firm criticized for its performance after Hurricane Katrina.
State Assembly Budget Committee Chairman Gary Schaer (D-Passaic) said he no longer trusts the way Christie, a Republican, is managing the effort.
"The faith I once had in the Christie administrations ability to lead the Sandy recovery process has slowly been replaced by deep and troubling concerns over repeated missteps," Schaer said.
Schaers comments came after the Assembly budget panel spent most of a two-hour hearing grilling Richard Constable, commissioner of the Department of Community Affairs, the state agency charged with overseeing the disbursement of Sandy aid.
