(18,614 posts)More accurately, he was anti-war only when he carried a draft card. He's stated on his show, while vehemently defending Bush's invasion of Iraq, that the Vietnam War was an unjust conflict (I heard that with my own ears).
O'Reilly went to the same graduate school in England that former president Bill Clinton attended in order to extend his 1S draft deferment. Funny how getting over draft bait age changed some people politically, isn't it?
Bill Clinton once said that if a person saw the '60s, and the sweeping changes that occurred during that decade, as positive, they're likely liberals today. If, on the other hand, they saw those changes, such as the end of Jim Crow, social safety nets, the sexual revolution, and the psychedelic cultural awakening as negative, then they probably are loudmouth conservatives today.
That's the reason for the famous "generation gap", where Boomers with only a couple years of age difference, are like night & day politically. Some people who were born immediately after WWII inherited their father's ideals, while those born in the early '50s adopted a more contemporary view of social acceptance and compassion.
O'Reilly is just a pussy who embraced the anti-war movement when he could get killed in the Great Asian Vacation, while shunning everything else fought for by good liberals during that decade.
On edit:
I have some similar pix from my youth. Thanx for posting!

(18,614 posts)$3,000 out the door in '75. The Superglide was only another $500, but I really liked Sportsters. The others in the photo are the former Mrs JohnnyRingo and our wonderful sons.
The Sporty is still in the basement where it has resided since I last rode it in 1984. It's in pieces, but all there. Once in a while I stub my toe on part of it, so it still hurts me even in it's dormant state. hahaha
I did have one new car once, but I got it as a birthday present, so I didn't actually buy it:

I have noticed that conservitives have started to embrase "that music" as if they were cool when in fact they were not.

(146,248 posts)but I was too stoned to work a camera most of the time, I'm afraid. There was one photo of my wife from those days we took once. Since we were nude and stoned in the photo, though, I destroyed it when we separated. It was posed like the couple in "American Gothic."
A favorite story from those days happened when we called someone to pump the septic tank at our rented house. This "old" guy in his 50s showed up with the pump truck. I had dug a big hole to expose the top of the tank so we could save a few bucks. My wife and I were standing by the hole when he arrived. He looked at my wife, who was wearing bib overall and no shirt under them, and said, "So, are you one of those loose-titty hippie chicks?" The question was asked in a friendly way, with no offense intended. My wife laughed and said, "I guess I am." We all laughed uproariously, and then he pumped the septic tank for us, as we watched.
Later, we noticed that this guy was wearing big rubber gloves as he worked. He was also smoking a cigarette and holding it between the fingers of those rather gross rubber gloves. Ewww...

I remember those days well.
I remember getting off from work and meeting friends at the river/park for some toking, beer drinking and frisbee throwing and just in general good ass times.
We never bothered anyone and at the same time didn't take any shit from anyone either.
