Im just freaking devastated by the whole deal, man. I loved my wife so much. I cannot believe this. I cannot freaking believe it. I feel like Im going to wake up here in a minute and this is all going to be a bad nightmare, Heath Peacock told CNN Tuesday.
snip:"I know his beliefs. When he ran one of his commercials, he said I need your prayers, and I asked, When did you get religious? He said, When I needed votes, Peacock recalled. He broke out the religious card and hes about the most non-religious person I know.

(6,785 posts)I'd take that with a grain of salt too. There could be some "Fuck my wife will you? I'll turn your crazy fanatical followers against you! See how you like them apples!" in there.
McAllister can pretend to ignore it and it might go away like Vitter's did, and if it doesn't he can have a Swaggart moment and the idiots will eat it up. If they think he doesn't love Jesus, they'll burn him at the stake, and everyone knows it.

For many years, McAllister has been friends with the Peacocks, who were captured in photographs with the McAllister family at a birthday party in a 2009 Facebook photo album posted by Kelly McAllister.
Fifth Judicial District Court records show McAllister and Heath Peacock grew up a little more than three miles apart in rural West Carroll Parish. McAllister and Heath Peacock both graduated during the 1990s from Forest High School.
McAllister also worked with Heath Peacock over a 16-year period for Mustang Engineering, a Houston, Texas-based oil and gas company. In 1997, McAllister married Kelly McAllister and dropped out of the University of Louisiana-Monroe to accept full-time employment at Mustang Engineering. McAllister was joined there in 1998 by his brother, Brant McAllister, and Heath Peacock. Both Brant McAllister and Heath Peacock left Mustang in early 2013. McAllister resigned from Mustang in August 2013 after announcing his candidacy for the 5th District congressional seat.

(4,461 posts)I've been saying this for a while. The Republican requirement of Christian faith is inconsistent with general Republican philosophy. Thus, to be a Republican politician means you have to pretend to be a Christian - at least to get elected, anyway. That necessarily builds hypocrisy into the model. They are attracting the bottom of the barrel - candidates who are willing to lie about their religious faith. Only people with a very small sense of decency can do that effectively.

I'm not always right - but I am right, often, especially in regard to southern politics.

(3,041 posts)As someone who has been cheated upon by his (now former) wife, I recognize all too well the denial he is going through. He cannot bear to bring himself to believe that it was anything more than a kiss, and meanwhile the entire rest of the world knows that she had sex with McAllister. She played her husband for a fool and continues to do so. He can't see it, and the worst is yet to come for him when he can finally not delude himself any longer. There should be a special place in hell reserved for adulterers.
