Rep. Vance McAllister may send a letter to House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) requesting an FBI investigation into the leak of a surveillance video that showed McAllister kissing a female staff member.
The Monroe News-Star on Wednesday reported that McAllister planned to send the letter today, but a spokesperson for the congressman told TPM in an email that the first-term Louisiana Republican was still thinking it over.
"At this point, there has not been a letter sent to Speaker Boehner," Jennifer Dunagin, McAllister's communications director, told TPM in an email. "Right now, the Congressman is exploring the option. This security breach is something that warrants an investigation, but how we go about doing that is yet to be determined."
The video, which was shot in December at McAllister's office in Monroe, La., showed McAllister kissing Melissa Peacock , his now-former district scheduler. The video was first published Monday by a small Louisiana newspaper, The Ouachita Citizen, which said it had obtained the video from an anonymous source. On Tuesday, a local pastor came forward and accused another McAllister staff member, Leah Gordon, of leaking the video.

Ex-McAllister Challenger: He Needs To Resign Now!
DANIEL STRAUSS APRIL 9, 2014, 9:39 AM EDT
One of the lawmakers Rep. Vance McAllister (R-LA) defeated to win his congressional seat is demanding on the congressman to step down in light of new video footage showing McAllister kissing a staffer (who is not his wife).
"This is another embarrassment to Louisiana," state Rep. Robert Johnson (D) said according to the Times-Picayune on Tuesday. "I think he needs to resign, and I don't think he can be effective."
Johnson, who ran against McAllister in November, wouldn't say he would run again but he admitted that he's "certainly very interested." Johnson came in fifth in the open race for the seat.
Since the tape surfaced McAllister has said he did not plan to resign his seat "unless there is an outcry for me not to serve."

(31,515 posts)that the other one was going to tell on him? What difference does it make who leaked the video and why does it warrant an FBI investigation?
This is what they do when they are caught red handed. Blame the accuser, act like a victim and then assert that since they've asked gawd's forgiveness we should all just forget about and let them sweep it under the rug.

(17,856 posts)I talk to God as much as anyone else, I'm sure, and she has told me repeatedly that she's just not going to forgive him. Just this morning, over coffee, she told me again that he's a lying sack of republican hypocrisy and she not going to forgive him.
"Ain't gonna happen," she said. "Not after he immediately fired his squeeze. That was unforgivable. He couldn't forgive her, but I'm supposed to forgive him? Fuck that noise."

(8,329 posts)I would love to see this go to the FBI. They would have to review the facts around the case and that could get fun.
What was going on leading up to the kiss?
Could there be other videos of this happening at other times and in other places.
Are there any other ongoing activities that could open you to Blackmail.
This has the potential to be the next Star investigation. I realize he is not POTUS, but what the hell
How will it feel with the shoe on the other foot

(21,506 posts)Why the long delay in the release of the tape?
Why does the timing of the release of the tape coincide so closely with him calling for expanding of medicare in his state.
I get that he is a hypocrite but something is fishy in this besides his infidelity and I would be willing to bet theres some real juicy stuff to be found out from an investigation.

(5,842 posts)In lieu of resigning (which it doesn't sound like he plans on doing) the smart thing would be to drop the matter, get his house in order and lay low for a few months. Instead he wants the FBI to get involved. Something tells me there's more going on than just a drunken kiss after a holiday party.

(3,245 posts)sounds like a tactic to buy him some time from public scrutiny.
Personally, I wouldn't put it past that it was one of his district office staff who leaked this. That staff more than likely would have been made up of family members of local campaign donors who are being repaid in a small form for their support. Since it appreared that the Tea Party was a major backer of McAllister, it would make sense to me that this staff would be more Tea Party than anything. Also, the fact that whomever did this either had heard rumors or kind of knew something may have been going on. Another possiblility could be that this person heard of it after the fact and just recently was able to gain access to those security tapes. That I think though is doubtful.
As to why there were security cameras where they were, to me, they make sense where they are. It would make sense to have security cameras at the entrance to any Congressman's office.
