(67,084 posts)Roku, for example, but they seem to be too well trained on traditional TV. The broadcasters know days are limited and the ISP providers, hence, they want to control the internet via tiered bundled pricing, and that, is horrible!!! ... as they try to eliminate an open internet.

(15,189 posts)With a Netflix subscription. My 87 year old mother loves it. We also use that $10.00 a month internet phone service Unlimited talk or something like that. Best phone decision I've made. Comacast wants like $30.00 for phone after 3 months. I went with Comcast rather than antenna for TV.

(9,808 posts)/personal rant on:
We're in Comcast territory, which is one of the most corrupt, user-unfriendly, screw the customer cable providers out there. My grandmother lives in assisted living, and they don't do Dish. So her choices were $90 a month for 20 station basic Comcast or a roku. Guess which I gave her? The one with the simpler remote, more selection, fewer commercials and neither QVC nor 2200 ranty god-bothering stations.
She hates it. I think she's mostly overwhelmed by too many choices, even though I've got it locked down to just netflix, Amazon Prime and Pandora. I am slowly seeing her try to use the system, but she can't seem to get the idea that she has to use the OK button. We have NEVER had cable or a dish in 13 years of marriage, so I am functionally unequipped to see the benefits of broadcast or cable.
I would really love to know what feature/program/channel captured your mother's attention to see if I can replicate it with my grandmother.
Sorry for the thread jacking, but I'm at my wit's end with her on several issues, and getting her TV sorted would help tremendously.
