'Kissing Congressman' Rebuffs Calls For His Resignation

BILL BARROW AND MELINDA DESLATTE – APRIL 11, 2014, 7:39 AM EDT

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana Rep. Vance McAllister stayed out of sight as calls grew louder from Republicans back home demanding the GOP congressman's resignation after he was caught on video kissing the wife of a friend.

McAllister's office vowed that he intended to stay in office — for now. As for questions about whether he would stand for re-election in November, those were dodged.

Married and the father of five children, McAllister has not been seen in public since the video surfaced. He has missed several votes in the Capitol, including an important one on the Republican budget for the coming fiscal year.

His absence came as the state's Republican governor and party chairman sought to pressure McAllister to step down. Gov. Bobby Jindal called the congressman's behavior an embarrassment.

but obviously, he feels the chair of his state party and the Governor calling for his resignation does not constitute a legitimate "cry."

from his State's U.S. Senator, David Vitters, encouraging McAllister to "hang in there! This will blow over, don't worry about it!"

they never quit, they ask for forgiveness, and then just assume they have it.

Is that there were no similar calls from the republican machine for Vitter to step down. I understand that at the time, the governor of Louisiana was a democrat and probably would have appointed a fellow democrat to take over, and that's the reason why, but it really doesn't explain why they're going after McAllister so much. They were successful with sweeping a much bigger scandal past voters with Vitter so this should be cake. The only thing I can think of is that McAllister is a tea party candidate who beat the GOP establishment candidate, and republicans are trying to clear house of the monster they helped create as well as send a message to the tea party.

IIRC from a post I saw on DU.

One theory is that The Repubs-That-Be didn't like that so they leaked the video (which they had been holding onto for 4 months) to discredit him.
