Right-wing pundit Ben Shapiro says Colbert’s act is “vile political blackface”

Breitbart.com editor argues that pretending to be conservative is like being outrageously racist

ELIAS ISQUITH

As Thursday drew to a close, many could be forgiven for assuming that the right wing’s biggest freakouts over CBS’s hiring of Stephen Colbert had already occurred, and that essentially no one was going to be able to top Rush Limbaugh when it came to wild hyperbole on the matter. But then Breitbart editor Ben Shapiro posted a new article about Colbert at his media watchdog website Truth Revolt, and all that changed — forever.

Shapiro has long distinguished himself for writing unhinged, idiotic and hateful things. He tried to smear Chuck Hagel by saying the former senator had a relationship with a group called Friends of Hamas, for example. Such a group did not, does not and likely will not exist. He’s urged Israel to engage in ethnic cleansing. He’s argued that there’s no discrimination against LGBT people in America today. The list goes on.

His latest act of beclowning, though, may be his best/worst yet. After sending off multiple tweets of pouting outrage over Colbert’s hiring earlier in the day, Shapiro penned a column that argued that Colbert’s shtick of pretending to be a conservative pundit while acting like a bigot and fool was the moral equivalent of performing in blackface.

Here’s a link to the article, but in the interest of persuading you not to click it and give Shapiro the pageviews, here’s a screen grab of the piece, which more or less gets its moronic, insensitive and hysterical message across:

That guy used to provide so much fodder for my blog when I was keeping it up. But he's a total clown - he came up through the young republicans and is sort of a proto James O'Keefe who was hoping to be more William Safire than Rush Limbaugh - but lacked the talents to accomplish that.

Very sad fellow.

It is nearly impossible to watch or read about or listen to anything a Republican does without coming away with a viscerally negative response to conservatives.

* idiots (I will equalize this with distrust in logic and science)
* racist
* sexist
* bigoted
* brutal (I will equalize this with neglect for human suffering in the face of physical violence)
* religious
* wishes to persecute gays
* thinks men are victims of sexism

Those are the attributes that Colbert displays (according to Ben Shapiro), but that are totally untypical for conservatives (according to Ben Shapiro).

More wingnut projection. They're the ones who like to accuse liberals of having no sense of humor, because we don't laugh at the hateful, racist shit they try to pass off as "humor". Yet, they're the ones who get in a snit over people like Colbert, who are actually funny, but at their expense. They can dish it out, but they can't take it.

I'm getting really sick of these people.

It is virtually impossible to come away from watching the Steven Colbert show without coming away with the truth about vile conservative politics and ideology(s). Conservatives hate it when the light of truthiness is shined on their dark, dank wretched crawl holes. They recognize the failing nature of their hell inspired creepiness when they expend extraordinary efforts to undermine the voting franchise all Americans are entitled to exercise. Now true fear comes as they think even more mainstream Americans will be exposed to their illegal and immoral, anti Christian actions on not just cable networks, but on regular over the air TV which even their poorer, trailor house in the valley with confederate flags for curtains, victims will be able to access. I think they protest to much, truthiness will get ya every time, sooner or later.

born conservative, that being conservative is a condition with which they were born and which they are unable to change, something innate like gender or race.

That's interesting because I have been unable to figure out why anyone in the world would choose to be a conservative. i certainly would not. Liberals have more fun. Liberals are more generous. Liberals are better educated. Liberals laugh more. Liberals are more intelligent. Liberals are more articulate. At least that is my opinion. And I should add, I think there is a good chance that liberals have more sex, better marriages and happier kids than conservatives. But I might be biased about that so make up your own mind based on your own experience.

Republicans already own the media. Can't they loan out just a few hours of it to us liberals so that we can have a few laughs at their expense.

If they don't like being ridiculed maybe they should get liberal and stop being so up-tight about it all. They'd have a lot more fun if they did.

The notion that conservatives should be treated with kid gloves so to be immune from political satire, and essentially shielded from scrutiny or criticism, is quite a stretch. Even worse is the notion that poking fun at them or their remarks is a form of bigotry. What really bothers these "put upon" conservatives is that Colbert knows what he is talking about and deftly exposes them for who they are. Once stripped naked of pretension and empty talking points, they come unglued and attack the messenger. But the message still stands.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that the Colbert Report is a sharp satire of right wingers!

I wonder if Shapiro likes to tell libs to "lighten up" about politically incorrect humor. Because it doesn't inconvenience BS's religious/conservative worldview.
