The News and Observer article was updated without telling anyone. UNC is finally releasing its response to the libelous claims of Willingham and others. Should be interesting to watch.
Almost everyone has heard of the athletic and academic "scandals" at The University of North Carolina. As an alum living in Chapel Hill it had been painful before that story appeared.
The online version of Kane's Nov 2010 story that first identified Willingham as a "whistleblower" was updated by Kane on Jan 9, 2014 and is dramatically different. The Orwellian version now online dovetails with Willingham's current version of things. The page when displayed has no indication that it is not the version from Nov 17, 2012. But down in the source, there is an update time of "2014-01-09T13:18:56Z". The N&O has done a good job of tracking down and purging various copies of stories from their own site, often from sites that reference their site, from WayBack, and made other web pages almost impossible to find using any of the search engines.
I think this might approach obstruction of a criminal investigation.
Look at this and spread the word quickly in every way you can: UNC officials, places like Inside Carolina, social media, DA Woodall, …
Those of you with special computer talents need to carefully archive all the resources and scripts that are used for tracking accesses, discovering search terms, and a lot more. Nasty "debug" capabilities.
