Last edited Sun Apr 13, 2014, 10:54 PM - Edit history (1)
Very interesting poll in so many ways. While its done by the Christan Science Monitor it is a very smart, articulate series of questions that distinguish the facts vs. the fiction that Fox noise spews out. It could also be used to distinguish a Democrat from a Republican and could also be used to have your Republican uncle take to show how very little he actually knows....
Regardless, Its a very interesting poll and I would encourage everyone to take it...

(21,506 posts)was a trick question because it was as of 2010.
The bailout question was also a trick question imho assuming you mean the gm bailout.

(19,877 posts)The one about chamber of commerce using foreign money to fund republican candidates, I hadn't heard or read about that story so I put (guessed) not true and it turned out not true was the correct answer. Although I wouldn't put it past them to do so.
Jim Lane
(11,175 posts)About foreign money influencing our elections, you write that "it turned out not true was the correct answer."
Actually, the correct answer (which I got right) was that it was not proven to be true. The fact is that, because of the lack of transparency, and the ability of the Chamber of Commerce to conceal its finances, no one outside the organization knows if this was true or not.
That, in itself, is a scandal.

Egnever
(21,506 posts)also the gm bailout question is a little bit of an interpretation.
Gm did get funds from tarp from the bush admin. However it went into bankruptcy after that and the Obama admin provided the funds to get it out.Well technically they provided the financing to the company that bought GM and then changed it's name to GM.
I would argue that the actual GM bailout was all Obama. Though bush did provide some bridge loans through tarp before they went into bankruptcy.

As you may know, during the election campaign, some people said that the US Chamber of Commerce was spending large amounts of money it had raised from foreign sources to support Republican candidates and attack Democratic candidates. Is it your impression that:
[Assuming that you are like 97 percent of Americans] since January 2009 have your Federal income taxes:
What is your impression of what the Obama administration has done in regard to the number of US troops in Afghanistan?
Not happy with myself.
Egnever
(21,506 posts)the troop level question is for 2010.
The GM Chrysler question is a little misleading.
The chamber of commerce question has the qualifier proof. Something that would be next to impossible to prove under the reporting requirements they live under. Doesnt mean they didnt do it and likely did, it just cant be proven.
the tax thing well...you can beat yourself up about that one

(14,733 posts)I missed the fact that Obama has increased troops in Afghanistan, and I only chose Obama for the bailout of GM, not both. I remember that in the general Obama was arguing for the bailout when prominent voices on the right (such as dear Mr Rmoney) were saying 'let Detroit go under', so I assumed that nothing got done til after Obama made it into office. Apparently it was early enough in the general that Bush got in on the bailout action there too.
(Was the Afghanstan question merely about the 'surge' and not the later drawdowns? Are there actually still more troops in Afghanistan than when Obama took office?)
Leith
(7,808 posts)The foreign money/Chamber of Commerce one and the troops in Afghanistan one.
I'm still not convinced about foreign money contributions to US elections. Nobody knows where that money comes from thanks to SCOTUS.

(14,733 posts)Upthread somebody points out that this quiz is four years old. So the troop numbers question is post 'Surge', and not about current levels.

(24,780 posts)I forgot about the this being from 2010 and missed the Afghan question. Missed the bailout question, timelines are starting to blur now 4 years later. I disagree with the answer for the Chamber question. To me the evidence proved it.
