For years, Tesla Motors could get no love from the GOP.
The electric automaker neatly embodied two things many Republicans hated: green technology and federal stimulus loans. Conservative commentators railed that Tesla used $465 million in taxpayer money to build novelty cars for the rich. Sarah Palin cited Tesla as an example of "crony capitalism." Even Mitt Romney, who based his presidential campaign on business smarts, called the company a "loser."
Now, quite suddenly, Republicans, who have been struggling to appeal to a wider swath of voters, are singing the company's praises.
In recent weeks, Tesla has won support from such figures as Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly.
"Everybody on the planet should be rooting for Tesla," O'Reilly said on his March 31 show. "I mean everybody, even the traditional car companies that will have to compete."

Way to update party image
Backing the company in its fight with dealerships could offer Republicans a way to update their image as a pro-business party, and possibly make inroads in the Democratic bastion of Silicon Valley, analysts say.

(5,016 posts)There Is A 99% Chance Climate Change Is Not Natural, Says Researcher Using Historical Data, Not Computer Models
As the debate continues over whether rising global temperatures and wacky weather are man-made or simply natural fluxes in Earths climate, one climatologist says the answer unequivocally points human involvement. Most notably, he analyzed seldom-used sets of data to arrive at his conclusion.
Instead of relying on sophisticated computer models to chart the effect of greenhouse-gas emissions on Earths climate, a researcher from McGill University in Montreal turned to historical and empirical data dating back to the 16th century, including that found in ice cores, lake sediment records and studies of Greenlands ice cap.
Based on his research, Shaun Lovejoy, a nonlinear physicist at McGill and lead author of a study published Friday in the journal Climate Dynamics, says theres a 99 percent chance global climate change is not natural. Lovejoy has ruled out the natural-warming hypotheses, joining the 97 percent of scientists from around the world who have done the same. Lovejoys research adds to the growing pile of evidence that suggests climate change is the result of anthropogenic causes.
Theres a difference between trying to prove a theory is correct and trying to prove something incorrect, Lovejoy told Motherboard. If we cant prove the theory, we can reject the hypothesis that all we have is natural variability. Ive rejected that with a 99.9 percent level of confidence.
