CBO: Affordable Care Act getting even more affordableBy Steve Benen at MSNBC

"SNIP...................
Critics of the Affordable Care Act no longer want to talk about enrollment totals, which is understandable to the extent that the latest ACA enrollment figures look quite good. Instead, many Republicans have gone back to some old favorites: Obamacare is causing premiums to spike; the nation cant afford the system; it will bankrupt us all; were all doomed, etc.
I can only imagine how frustrating it must be lately to be an opponent of this law.
The most expensive provisions of Obamacare will cost taxpayers about $100 billion less than expected, the Congressional Budget Office said Monday.
CBO also said it doesnt expect big premium increases next year for insurance plans sold through the health care laws exchanges.
In its latest analysis, CBO said the laws coverage provisions a narrow part of the law that includes only certain policies will cost the government $36 billion this year, which is $5 billion less than CBOs previous estimate. Over the next decade, the provisions will cost about $1.4 trillion roughly $104 billion less than CBO last estimated.

(23,486 posts)It is a good thing tho. But, if word doesn't get out and the lies perpetuate, it just gets so frustrating.

(45,806 posts)He worked in Sicily for the last 11 years, but the contract was won by some other company and he & his wife had to come home to the States. He had been told how HARD it was to get through the signup process and that the insurance was shit, but he had no other choice. He checked some plans online, but I convinced him to call the 800# to make sure he understood the whole plan. I had even prepared him for a long wait because of my past experience helping a cousin sign up back in December.
SURPRISE! He only waited about 3 minutes, and a very professional agent came on the line. He was VERY knowledgeable and explained several options to my son. The entire process took about 15 mins. and My son is very happy with the result.
Knowing how much he dislikes Dems, I HAD to ask if he would at least admit ObamaCare was a big help to him. He smiled, and said "Yea, I'm happy. It was a lot easier than I was lead to believe, and worked out much better for us than everyone said It would."
I'm MILES away from changing him from a RED PUB, but while he's staying with us, I'm making sure he hears all the stupid things the Pubs continue to say, and how most of what he's been told are lies. I hope he gets another job soon, for their sake, but I also hope I have long enough to give him insight into the insanity of the Pub Party!

(961 posts)it is VERY affordable. Of course, it would be much more affordable if the repuclicans hadn't blocked single payer.
