Santa Fe, NM. We usually have clear skies. It's a bit chilly, so I just go outside every five minutes or so and take a look.

I stopped and slept in several places there, from Tucumcari to Santa Rosa (route 66 cafe) to Albuquerque (love the owl head cafe) to Gallup. It is just beautiful there and was such a change from Ohio.

Could live in a place like that

The high desert out and away from the coast (east of the Sierra Nevada mountains).

I loved the scenery and feel of Gallup and it is close enough to AZ and CA to be the best choice for me overall. But then there is Lone Pine CA - small town community near the mountains (Mt. Whitney) where I always said I wanted to retire to. Slow, simple, small town. But deep too I just absolutely found NM magical (I tried to get a job in Albuquerque but it fell through, went all the way across country just to interview there in hopes I could move there).

Wish I had something that could shoot a picture of it worth a damn. Beautiful, clear view of the Earth's shadow.

which is why it's so much brighter than usual, also putting it in the same part of the sky as the full moon.
