Teen convicted of disorderly conduct for using iPad to record bullies tormenting him

http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/04/14/teen-convicted-of-disorderly-conduct-for-using-ipad-to-record-bullies-tormenting-him/#.U0vekJTjezQ.facebook

A Pennsylvania mother whose learning-disabled son was convicted of disorderly conduct for recording his bullies while they tormented him demanded the judge reverse decision and the school district apologize.

Shea Love wondered why the school district contacted the police to discuss a violation of wiretap statutes instead of confronting the students who were bullying her son, a sophomore at South Fayette High School with attention deficit and an anxiety disorder.

“The whole thing has been a horrible nightmare,” Love told the Tribune-Review. “This whole ordeal has made my son miserable.”

I hate to say it, but mom needs to pull kid out of school, and then sue them for their lack of inaction, from tje school board on down. They do this shot because they expect parents not to do that.

Fire the lot of them and get in some people who really care about their district. Sounds like none of the current admins care.

Son against the bullies. Give them a taste of their own medicine.

Of course, she'll probably have to move to a new school district to prevent retribution.

I'm reading the whole article right now.

The teacher in the recording telling the bullies to be quiet... because their talking has nothing to do with math

The elements of sexual harassment in the recording, telling another bully to pull the victim's pants down is an example, but 'the incident' is the recording itself

Makes me wonder if the bullies and the administration in the school are related.

And if this student didn't do this and instead did something horrible to himself, God forbid, then we would have certainly heard the school pull out the whole "We never heard about this" card.

Meanwhile, assistant principal Skrbin testified that the district had records of Love complaining about students bullying her son, including an incident in October in which a student hit her son with 'spitwads', even after her son told him to stop.

'To be blunt, I would not classifying that as bullying,' Skrbin said.

What exactly is bullying in his mind?

Bullying, horse play, pranks = assault, battery, menacing, stalking, criminal harassment, and sexual assault.

Pull the kid out of the school. Appeal the judge's decision ( perhaps ACLU will help?). Sue the crap out of the school, the Principal, the teacher, the School District, and the bullys' parents.

Stanfield's attorney, Jonathan D. Steele, said he anticipates winning an April 29 appeal of McGraw-Desmet's ruling. He is considering filing a federal lawsuit against the district for not reacting to the bullying claims and for retaliating against his client.

“Districts have an obligation once they know about bullying,” he said.

Note that the judge did NOT go with the "wire tapping" charge so in effect found the school administrator's charge to be invalid. Further the school, extra-judicially, "forced" Love to erase the recording.

I think the District should review their procedures and policies related to physical assaults that happen on their campuses. This also wreaks of ineffective classroom management skills since the teacher allowed this to continue for weeks. Time for some training.

Also, just want to correct your spelling... it's "reeks" (i.e. stinks) of ineffective classroom management skills. Which, as we can see, wreaks (i.e. causes) havoc.

yes, I admit to grammar naziism.

Anyway, I am glad she's got a strong appeal. Accusing the kid under "wire tapping" laws.....what disgusting conservative bullshit. (I'm guessing it's a conservative Board, anyway.)

This is how children are molested without restraint, women are abused and murdered without a thought. The system is stacked in ways most people don't notice until the beast bites them personally. If someone investigated they would only find that the bullies are connected or the staff at the school are prejudiced against the victim for some bullshit reason.
