A gun range in Oklahoma is thought be the first in the state to apply for a liquor license.
As a group we wanted to build a place, the first one in Oklahoma, where you could go in, shoot, enjoy the retail area and then go to the café, Jeff Swanson, owner of the Wilshire Gun Club recently told KOKH.
When the club is complete, the 40,000 square-foot facility is expected to have 24 firearm lanes, 10 archery lanes, a simulation room, classrooms, and a VIP lounge with alcoholic beverages.
Swanson said that club members were being discouraged from shooting while impaired.
Once your order a drink your drivers license is scanned and you are red-flagged and youre not allowed into any of the shooting facilities either as a spectator and certainly not as a shooter for the remainder of the day, Swanson insisted.
Co-owner Jan Moran told The Journal Record that the policy would be to shoot first, then drink.
Capt. Brent Fairchild, spokesperson for Oklahomas Alcoholic Beverage Laws Enforcement (ABLE) Commission, pointed out that the idea was a recipe for disaster.
Any misconceptions or joking aside, beer and bullets, guns and alcohol, they do not mix, Swanson noted, adding that club policies to prevent drinkers from shooting could be circumvented because where theres a will theres a way.
So no matter how many safeguards you do put in place theres always someone whos going to try to get around those, he said.

(82,849 posts)They'll be restricted from the shooting facilities for the remainder of the day. Presumably, these law-abiding gun owners will not have their shootin' arns confiscated or locked away. I wonder what someone might do, liquored up and not able to shoot at the range?
Oh well, best not to get too deep into hypotheticals, what with all the members and guests being law-abiding gun owners and everything. Sure hope nobody bad-mouths the Sooners football team.

You aren't aloud to drink then shoot. I realize that the Faux Snooze-esque headline may have some of you confused, but you should really read the article. There is nothing to stop someone outside of this facility from drinking and then shooting til the cows come home. Why are you are so torn up about a facility where after you drink, you CAN'T SHOOT!?!
Reminds me of the pearl clutchers who get all riled over a gun store being within a certain distance of a school/daycare. "Oh no, something is NEAR something!!!"
There is a gun range that sells alcohol, but not to the shooters. BFD.

(2,337 posts)However this range appears to be more conscious about stopping drinkers from shooting than other places. There are no safeguards at all outside of this establishment to stop drunks from shooting, unless interdicted by law enforcement.
I guess my issue with this is that I don't see the issue. Just more "blood in the streets!" BS.

(18,585 posts)If you've seen one of the big Bass Pro shops, you know what I mean.. restaurant on one end (specializing in game meat dishes), massive retail space in the middle, boat shop on another corner, and a shooting range in back.
Hasn't been a problem since it opened that I can tell.
Did nobody actually read the article?

In all seriousness, though, the article makes it clear they are taking very serious precautions against having anyone who orders alcohol enter the shooting facility.

Even then they drive home lit up carrying a gun.
