Photo: vet removes poachers bullets from Orangutan

This laid-back fellow is in the right place after poachers shot him – a hospital for orangutans.

The 14-year-old male was examined by a vet at The Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Centre after being rescued from a small forest with air rifle pellets in his bottom.

The centre in Indonesia has cared for over 280 orangutans rescued from palm oil plantations, poachers and pet owners and over 200 have been reintroduced in the wilds.

The orangutan was rescued by Indonesia’s ministry of forestry personnel and Orangutan Information Center on April 15, in nearby Langkat district in a small patch of forest and agricultural plantation.

The apes have become an endangered species due to poaching and the levelling of forests for palm oil plantations.
