TOM KLUDT APRIL 18, 2014, 12:24 PM EDT
The "Duck Dynasty" clan isn't the draw it used to be. Not even in the Bible Belt. Promoters announced last month that members of the Robertson family would appear at a show titled "Faith, Family & Ducks" at an 11,000-seat arena in Springfield, Mo.
For $37, $50 or $58, fans could enjoy live music and hear the bayou millionaires talk about "living the American dream" while staying true to their "family values and modest lifestyle." But according to local media reports, the April 27 event has been canceled due to low ticket sales.
The golden era for the A&E reality series appears to be over. Ratings for last month's season five finale were down almost 30 percent from the previous year. The season opened to disappointing ratings a month after the family's patriarch, Phil Robertson, made racist and homophobic remarks in an interview with GQ.
A&E briefly suspended Robertson before capitulating to conservatives like Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.

I'll have to keep an eye out for the bargain bins (out of curiosity), but without specifically looking for it I haven't noticed any obvious DD stuff still around. Quite the opposite of a few months ago. Those fake rednecks were EVERYwhere.

(6,795 posts)I am a crazy iced tea drinker and I do like Si....he's just so funny. I wonder how many of his "Si-isms" are really his.
I try not to watch the show, but every now and then...

(7,300 posts)I just moved from a small town about an hour south of Springfield. Unemployment rate is above 45% and most of the working folks there are poor, poor and poorer. Those ticket prices are way too expensive for the DD crowd especially after you figure in the cost of gas for a round trip to Springfield in a gas guzzling pick-em-up truck.

(23,664 posts)A show like DD has a very limited shelf life. There are just so many contrived situations that can be created and once they have all been used, you experience deja vu every time you watch.
And it was so obviously fake, even the target demographic was able to see through it.
The DD boys conned the public out of a few mill, so more power to them. I hope they invested wisely, because the gravy train is about to be derailed.

I did not watch the show or hunt, did not really care about it at all except for Phil Robertson's football story which is interesting and I don't even follow football anymore, did in the old days when Bradshaw played and the last game I watched was in 1980 or 81 cant really remember.
Me I am going to kick back and enjoy the schadenfreude

(1,484 posts).......and the local feed and grain store here had two huge cardboard boxes filled with the DD logo doggie beds for all them there huntin' retriever dogs to be a sleepin' on when they're not retrieving all those writhing in agony, half dead, drowning, sorry ass ducks that the heroes (I mean "sportsmen" shoot down with their 121 gauge, 1/4 mile wide spray, military cannons with laser sights. And it floored me to see that the feed & grain store couldn't even give those padded rags away, such is the pedestal those said heroes see themselves perched upon when compared with the likes of Phil Robertson's fetish for a little chicken.
