My friends think that it is funny that I am passionate about politics - how about you?
What was the last thing to piss you off politically?
For me it was when my county legislators voted to privatize our nursing home.

(6,199 posts)the court battle against marriage equality in Utah, but refusing to recognize the marriages performed while it was legal as well.
I was just thinking "what was the best thing to happen politically lately?"
I guess AFA hitting 8 million was as good as it gets.

(72,790 posts)Sure, I get mad and angry when a vote doesn't go how I hoped, but nothing will ever surprise me in politics so I really never allow myself to get too upset.

(36,364 posts)California voters rejected Prop 37 requiring genetically modified food be labeled. It was a an apolitical no brainer in my mind.
Good news: A new and improved bill is being introduced:
State Senator Noreen Evans, a Democrat from Santa Rosa, introduced a new bill to label GM foods sold in California. SB 1381 would require food sold in state grocery stores to be labeled if it contains genetically engineered ingredients. The bills proponents say it is basically a cleaner, more streamlined version of Prop 37, the 2012 ballot initiative to label GMOs that was defeated at the polls.

(531 posts)I still hold out hope that one day before I die or leave the country for good, which ever comes first, a Liberal/Progressive will be Elected POTUS and change America the way FDR did.

America seems to prefer lies over truth. I guess living a life a illusion is more fun than reality.

(33,992 posts)For the first time since I was a teenager, I pounded the pavement and made phone calls. Republicans had also put the marriage discrimination amendment on the ballot to drive conservative voters to the polls. The opposition to the amendment was not well organized - since it was one of the first, so there was no easy place to plug in to work against it.
So I spent hours after work and on weekend making calls and knocking on doors - knowing that in order to gain Kerry voters I could not simultaneously talk about Issue One, since many potential Kerry voters supported it. Once there was no more daylight, I worked into the night creating an Issue One website, bumper stickers, and stacks of cards pointing to the website I could leave all over or hand to folks who seemed open.
On election day I worked the polls, and it was clear when the tide turned toward Bush. Before the results were even in, two things started happening - First Kerry decided to concede before Ohio was even called. Horribly offensive to those of us in Ohio who felt forced to choose to between our personal interests (Issue One) and his election, and chose to work our tails off for him. Second - on DU people had already started blaming the gays for losing the election - even though (1) the issue was a Republican attempt to drive conservative voters to the polls and (2) many of us in Ohio (and other critical states) chose to let Issue One go rather than risk the presidency.
So - a slap in the face from Kerry & from large numbers on DU, coupled with 2/3 of the state of Ohio taking time out of their busy days to go spit on my family. All in all, a joyful time.

(7,820 posts)But one other (not vote, but series of votes) was how the whole 2004 Presidential race played out. I was a hard-core Deaniac, and both the primaries and general were incredibly painful. And yes, before anyone asks, I did support Kerry in the general.

(3,941 posts)Each election cycle I think my Bluegrass friends have finally wised up and each time my hopes have been crushed. I had lived my entire life in Kentucky until last year when I moved to be closer to work. First time he has ever run that I can't vote against the bastard.
There were plenty of other elections that hurt, Jimmy Carter's second term comes to mind, Either of Richard Nixon's two term farces, George W. Bush's was a huge disappointment due to the failure of our gerry rigged Supreme Court and the showboating of "veterans" who gladly threw John Kerry under the bus for a coke using, service dogging, frat boy. But knowing how kind, smart and hardworking Dee Huddleston was, whom McChinless smeared relentlessly to get his job until present day, every single time that smarmy a-hole pulled out another nasty win, my heart breaks.
